Hey guys i'm new and need some help please. I first started shedding when i was 14 but it was only small amounts. I've gradually lost more and more since then.

Each hair that comes out usually has a yellow bulb at the end but sometimes i get the odd black bulb too. Anyone know what this means?

I still somehow have enough hair but it looks really really thin. My scalp can be seen from a mile away if its a sunny day and its all just so painful emotionally...

So can someone please advise me on which products i should get on to to help my thinning? I've tried rogaine in the past with no results and propecia is out of the question as im terrified of its side effects.

Any kind of advice would help like even which hairstyle would suit my thinning hair or any shampoo to try..anything....

Please help me :(

Finasteride affects each person differently so the only way that you would know what sort of side effects you could experience would be to go on the meds. Some people report such noticeable regrowth or maintenance results that it makes the side effects acceptable in their eyes. Additionally some people report having different reactions to dutasteride (Avodart off-label use) so there's that one to consider as well.

If your hair is really as bad off as you're making it sound (which in all fairness the situation is almost always worse in your own head than it is in reality) then you might consider a shorter haircut. While yes it would technically provide less hair cover for you scalp, the shorter hair would make the differences between hair-here and no-hair-here less stark in comparison. Try searching the web for pictures of actors who have considerable hair loss but don't resort to the wig (travolta). Keeping a good public image is their primary job and so they've already done the work for you in consulting with hair stylists for the most appropriate cut for their diminished hair.

Since you're still young and obviously at least somewhat concerned about your outward appearance, join a gym. Building muscle definition can help throughout life by increasing confidence and health. In all actuality I really only think severely progressed hair loss looks amazingly awkward when it's on a skinny guy. The bigger your body is in relation to your head, the less of a focal point your head becomes (also the less likely someone will take a random crack at you :innocent: ).

Finally if you are going the route of a severely short hair style, consider growing out some well maintained facial hair. Facial hair on someone with a full head of hair traditionally makes most people view the person as aggressive yet the same facial hair on someone with hair recession and it makes them look successful and actually more likely to be promoted!
