Problems with current hair system supplier - poor communication on order status, not delivering when they say they will, etc. Is it time for a change?

Hi all, as you may know I use a UK based hair system supplier and I got my first ever system just over 1 year ago. I am a guy with longer hair and started off using a partial 6 inch stock Swiss lace system, with the view to getting a custom system of 10 inches or so at a later date. The 6 inch system covers my balding area on the top of my head, and I have longer bio hair on the back and sides. The system blends in with my bio hair to give the illusion of me having a full head of long hair. However the plan was always to get a 10 inch custom system, the same length as my bio hair, and cover my bio hair. That way, there is less chance of people noticing the (slight, but possibly noticeable in certain situations) discrepancy between 2 hair types/colours of hair on my head.

I am very happy with the price and quality of the hair systems my supplier has provided - my current system is now in its 6 month and still looks great. The hair looks totally real, and I have had very little shedding so far.

The plan with my current supplier was that I'd have 3 10 inch custom systems per year, i.e. 1 every 4 months. They offer a monthly payment option, which does not cost anything overall but just helps spread the cost a bit more easily. I am paying them this monthly fee.

The first custom system was due in July, but the dates kept being put back due to the pandemic. The owner of the company said it'd be delivered in August, then when I chased him up he said September, then October, then November. It is now the last day of December and I have not received any update from them whatsoever on my order status.

I have paid them 5 or 6 monthly payments, so they owe me nearly 2 custom systems now.

I understand that their supply chain has been affected by the pandemic, and they had to get a whole new production source etc. However, the thing that REALLY annoys me is that the owner of this company has very poor communication skills and does not keep customers informed of the status of their orders. I have had to constantly chase up previous orders, and then I get an email back (after many days or weeks) saying 'Omg I'm so sorry for not getting back to you....your order will definitely be delivered (next week/next month) etc'.

Last time I spoke to them, they said my custom system had been moved to the new production facilities, and would be delivered in early November. I am very annoyed they couldn't even be bothered to update me without me having to contact them first. I DO understand we are in a global pandemic which has seriously affected the hair system industry, but I'm not happy about the lack of updates about my order, while they continue taking my money every month. They have very poor customer service.

Pandemic or not, shouldn't a hair system company keep their customers informed of the status of their orders? What do the other companies out there do?

I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Should I email them or schedule a phone call and find out what's happening asap? The thing is, I need my longer haired system soon as I am not able to move forward to the exact vision of hair I'm looking for with stock systems only (although it's ok for the time being). Also, I need to know if my custom order in production and if not then should I cancel and demand my money back? I can then move on to another supplier.

I am thinking of giving Hair Direct a try instead. I know exactly what I want out of a custom system, it's just a matter of who can deliver a great quality product for a reasonable price in a reasonable time period (given the current pandemic). I'm not prepared to put up with this any longer.

Hey, can you let me know what company you are talking about, what company you find in the end? Also UK based and I'd love to know.

I've not placed an order in 12 months so I can't help you unfortunately.

I'll PM you as I don't want to say publicly who they are. I've got a phone call scheduled with them for next week, so I'll find out what's happening then and go from there.

I've had the same problem. Ordered at the beginning of August. Been told since beginning of November that unit is ready and will be shipped within a week. Then nothing. Get them to call me: "So sorry, but it'll definitely be shipped this week or next. Definitely." A month later, same again.
I had an email on 23rd telling me I would receive it on the 29th. Nothing. No courier details, no contact from supplier, nothing.
I'm giving them another week and then I'm just treating as a scam and asking my credit card company to step in and get a refund.
It's not the waiting that bothers me, it's the complete lack of transparency and honesty.

Hi, are you using a UK based company? I wonder whether you're using the same one as me. We can chat by PM if you like as I don't want to state publicly which company it is.

Why don't you want to say it publicly?

I think it's generally frowned upon here to mention hair system companies on this forum - it's usually done via PM. I've sent my current supplier a stern email requesting an immediate update and told them that if they don't update me asap and provide with definite details about the status of my order, then I will be cancelling my monthly payments with them, requesting a refund, and moving to a new supplier. If I don't hear back from them asap, then I WILL be outing them on this forum, mark my words.

Why is it frowned upon?

Every time I've replied to a thread asking for recommendations about hair system suppliers, salons etc, I have received PMs from certain senior members of this forum asking me not to recommend any hair system suppliers publicly, so maybe you should ask them not me. You will notice that the standard response here to people asking for good hair system suppliers is 'I'll PM you some suggestions'.

There is no rule that you can't mention particular suppliers that you have had particularly good or bad personal experiences with.

I personally don't, mainly because I am on here a lot, and I would not want people to think I am shilling for one or two suppliers (I am not!). Some of the other frequent posters seem to take the same approach. I do have views about who is good and bad, and I am happy to share those views with anyone who is interested, but I prefer to do it by PM. One of the great things about this forum is that it is not tied to any one supplier (the only active board that isn't, so far as I know), and there is very little shilling on it, so you are getting a genuine picture of real wearers' experiences. I think taking suppliers' names off the public board helps keep it that way.

It has the additional benefit that I can adjust what I tell people to take account of my continuing experiences and feedback I have had from others. A couple of suppliers that were very good a few years ago have lost their edge a bit now. Also, I can freely express any negative views about particular suppliers without exposing the forum owners to any trouble from the suppliers in question.

Hope this clarifies the situation.

I got a reply from the hair system company earlier:

Happy New year! Hope you had a nice Christmas break.

Thanks for your message below and I do apologies for the breakdown in communication and lack of updates.

We’re starting to catch up on the schedule now, resulting from the closure of our original team. With that said, your order should be ready no later than next week. As soon as I have a firm date for delivery, I will be in touch to let you know.

Once you’ve approved this order, we’ll start a new one for you immediately, in order to catch up on the schedule.

Thanks and I’ll be in touch very soon.

The trouble is, I am not sure if this is just another fob off or not. I always get this 'sorry for not being in touch' message then they go cold on me again and I have to chase up the orders. I think I am going to have a hard time getting my order and even harder time getting my money back, sadly.

Delays and errors with manufacturers rushing to catch up are expected. I received my custom piece end of December (ordered in April!!!) And came in with wrong color distribution.. very disappointing after such a long wait..contacted supplier ( Superhairpieces) and they asked that i return unit so they may fix it... not sure what the result will be.. but will give them a chance.

As far as naming companies, suppliers, product names, although i respect Noah a lot, i am of the opinion that free and open space on a public forum should exist (with respect and courtesy of course) this is the only way the users or clients of this industry can advance and change things....otherwise the companies continue on their way of doing things, and we cant rely on the reviews on their websites as they may be bogus .

My wife is from Viet Nam and we have found a source for good hair systems. Feel free to PM me, I'd like to help. My journey has been from a big Apollo type shop, to bumbling around China to get stock pieces. We just ordered a few and they are of good quality, I think we can put in a bulk order and save.

I think issues arise more from self promotion rather than reviews.
