Price of Finasteride

When I went to see my doctor about getting a prescription for finasteride he told me that it was it was very expensive and advised against getting it, so not knowing too much about it at the time I took his word. I have another appointment with him next week and this time I'll be refusing to leave without my prescription as my balding is now starting to get noticeable!
I found a website that says finasteride should be between €100-€150 per year which in the grand scheme of things isn't that much so I'm not sure why he's saying it's expensive....anyway I was just wondering what people in the UK and Ireland are paying for it over the counter? Is that guide price right or will I looking at paying more?

Out of interest because I'm from the UK too, how do you go about getting the prescription? I thought because it was cosmetic they wouldn't give it out? I've seen them for about £1-2 a pill! My worries are the sexual side of it. I wanna keep my hair but I also wanna have sex too... And I've heard that it can kill your labido?

you can't get it on NHS because male pattern baldness is considered a 'cosmetic' condition (and therefore unimportant - although women can get hairloss treatments on the NHS I think), but a private prescription you pay for. Turns out Generic finasteride 5mg is really cheap though, and actually works out cheaper than an NHS prescription.

I'm going to have to look into this, as my online pharmacy have upped their prices, so it is now eligible for import duty hopefully my GP is a bit more helpful. So with a private prescription, you just pay the costs not a set fee? As my GP was saying it would be about £30 a time when I asked 5 years ago.

Go to amazon and search Firide, ships from thailand is no more than $40 for 30 tabs.
I took it for 4 months but went to a local hair transplant doctor just for the convenience and picked up 90 for $120.
