I already suffer from general anxiety and slight erectile dysfunction. I also just spent an hour on the propecia support forum and I see so many symptoms that I already have slightly so I'm so sure it'll just be elevated.

I really don't want to start on meds if I don't have to but my hair doctor suggested I do. Even if it's effective, I really don't wanna take it lifetime. What are my alternatives?

If you are having anxiety and already suffer from some ED, then finasteride is not a good thing for you. You will be obsessed with watching for sides. I would research the site for alternatives but at the least try min 2x a day and Nizoral 3x week. Get a good stylist to work with what you have, hit the gym and spend some time in the sun.

If it's any comfort, I was having ED issues for a while before starting finasteride (the reason for it was psychological, I was in a very unhealthy relationship). I decided to starting taking finasteride this summer, and when I did I also changed my diet and started regularly working out. Since getting on finasteride, I've had nothing but positive sexual side effects.

Hi bedgenetics1, I also suffer from ED since 4 years and it's psychological too according to my doctor, and now I ll try to stop masturbating to beat my ED. However my hair loss doesn't stop even though I use minoxil for more then 3 years. I wonder how you could decide to take finasteride. What is those positive sexual side effects? Did you know why you had ED? Can you explain more detailed how did you experience this process because I'm at the same boat with you. It will be inspiring.

I decided to start taking finasteride a couple of weeks after my bad relationship ended. I knew that the ED I had experienced was due to psychological reasons (saw a doctor), so I figured that getting on finasteride would not be a problem. The reason for having ED in the first place was an emotionally abusive relationship that I was in. To prepare for getting on finasteride, I changed my diet by reducing saturated fats and sugars. In addition, I started working out regularly and started drinking 2-3 cups of green tea a day.

When I started finasteride, my libido skyrocketed - it was like I was in high school again. I would get erections randomly and could not stop thinking about women. My ejaculate volume increased, I could sleep with a girl and be able to go for a second round within 15 minutes of finishing the first, etc. I'm getting close to three months on finasteride, and my libido is still much higher than it was before starting. Perhaps finasteride was the reason for my libido going up, but it also could have been my lifestyle changes. Either way, I think it's worth giving a try.

dont worry about it much, just make sure you are taking multi-vitamins. it'll be all good. like if you know propecia causes these problems. might as well take other vitamins so you are sure that its the propecia which is causing it and not something else.

I also want to chime in. I am 31, but had psychological ED when I was in my early 20's that lasted for years. The issue went away when I gained more confidence in bed, but it came back after I started finasteride a number of years back. When I realized it was psychological and not the medication, pretty much overnight the problem went away and I haven't had issues since.

ED is a very common issue in young men, and almost every guy has this issue from time to time. Finasteride can rarely cause ED that is not psychological in nature, but it can much more commonly cause psychological ED which is difficult to treat.

I got it as a side and KNOW it was not psycological.

The sides happen in a very small % of people. I just unluckily fall in the catagory of bad sides.

Try it, if you have sides then stop BUT don't psyc yourself or you can ruin a good thing. Start with a super small dose like every other day and work up. Some guys take like 1mg a week or .5mg every other day and say it works wonders.

I've heard various people claim that those who already have some characteristics resembling finasteride sides (depression, ED, etc.) may be more affected by finasteride sides, but is there any evidence? Doesn't it seem possible that someone who already has, for instance, ED or low libido won't be as affected as much as someone who doesn't?

I don't know of any medical studies that link a higher % of finasteride sides to those with conditions like finasteride sides before they take it. I am suggesting to the OP that if he is already dealing with an anxiety issues, adding a med that will increase his concerns about ED could increase his anxiety. Losing hair can increase anxiety too, I realize, but OP has not tried anything else.

Hi there, I am under the same boat as the OP baydude. After 2 years of receding hair line, I finally went to see a doctor 3 days ago. The doctor did prescribed 5mg finasteride, even tho his knowledge of hairloss and the drug was far less than even myself. I had the pill cut in 4 pieces already, but when it comes down to it, I just could not do it. I am too scared of the possible side effects.

I feel like Im gambling with my life here. A chance of getting ED or a chance of saving my hair. I keep wavering and cant decide. And it doesn't help that I have been suffering from depression since high school.

I am basically at a lost here :( For those who started the drug, how did you decide to take it in the first place?

I was so desperate that there was no other choices left for me but to take finasteride. :(

don't be scared of the side effects. there's no need, they're rare. intolerable side effects? extremely rare. i started a couple of weeks ago and the only side-effect i've had so far is a slight increase in libido. my libido can drop in future for all i care, whatever, i'm apathetic about this.

be scared of not keeping your hair despite taking the drug. this is what i'm terrified of.
