Hello,
My boyfriend has been incredibly depressed for ten years about his hair loss and he just finally managed to get 20k together to have an FUE procedure done by John Diep out of SF. The surgery was done last Saturday March 23, 2019. We are concerned because we can see such obvious rows of straight lines running up from his head.. I wanted to post some pictures so people can let us know if this is normal and will somehow end up looking natural, or if he is going to have more of a “hair plug” look. My boyfriend is worried because he chose Dr Diep because he talks of being a hairline artist, but the Dr did very little of the procedure himself. He had young technicians do most of the work. Do these pictures look normal? Is this good work? All the photos we’ve seen online of post op FUE show a much more scattered pattern and the info we’ve come across has all concluded rows/grids end up looking very unnatural. We would really appreciate any input you might have. It was 2300 grafts. We’re also wondering if it looks like a second FUE procedure will be enough to cover the top and crown area adequately? He was told by the Dr that he’d probably be able to get another 2000-2200.. This first procedure alone was 20k. Just posted pre-op pics too.

$20k for 2300 grafts! Should have booked a 7 day holiday to Turkey, you would have saved $10k and got 4000 grafts including flights. It also looks like you could easily get 2k grafts from your beard so you should be able to sort the crown out without depleting the rest of your donor area.

I should add that it will look fine when its grown out.

Don't read too much into the lines of the scabs, I had exactly the same worry when I was looking at mine, I was sure he'd missed big areas but it's all grown out brilliantly.

It will look good, but I would certainly look at Turkey to get the crown fixed as mentioned above. That's a lot of money for the frontal area, but if it turns out great then its money we'll spent. Good luck to the lad

Thank you for the positive words... now that it’s 2 weeks post op he wanted me to post new pics because he’s still very concerned... the left side looks natural, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that the right side looks so perfectly straight. We have looked through countless post op pics and haven’t come across anything that looks like this.... :(((

Dr. Diep usually has pretty great results on his YT channel but I know some hairloss experts aren't big fans of his. Maybe this is why.

Rahal is just as good if not better. Other clinics have similar results.
The big thing with Diep is that he shows off these NW4+ cases and then presents them with a restored, good hairline.
Not saying his work sucks but he never really shows it in a good way, i.e. wet hair or even combing through. He is so soft about touching the styled hair. Of course it looks good!
He also always hides the donor zone and never shows off the crown.
The focus is always on the big dramatic difference.

I hope it works out here for the guy. The results usually look nice.

Diep only ever shows the shaved donor zones, never how they looks when the hair has grown out and isn't open (imho) about the crown of his patients. He tries to create the impression that 3500 grafts will transform a NW5 to a fullhead.
He uses a comb but just ever so gently brushes the forelock a bit. It always bothered me a bit. This is what I mean:
