Possible treatment for Hair loss?

As DHT binding to the Androgen Receptors on certain hair follices is thought to be the main cause of hair loss, could a pill treatment be invented that just binds to these receptors and doesn't lower DHT - a sort of magic bullet?

Because if there was a treatment that doesn't reduce the amount of DHT in the bloodstream there wouldn't be the possibility of side effects

Or is it the case that a certain amount of DHT/Androgen Receptor binding is necessary for normal hair growth? The background info on this site suggests that

Just a thought

The problem is that there are DHT receptors all throughout the body/brain. This is why one would need a topical DHT blocker (without systemic absorption) to leave the rest of the body unaffected.

Might the hair follicle receptors be different to the other ones in the body though?

There called anti androgens and i used in topical form, that way you don't experience the side effects that are possible from propecia. Not as good though IMO.

I think youre referring to a competitive enzyme inhibitor. Another option would be a non-competitive enzyme inhibition device.

What I'm thinking is that a pill form inhibitor would be more effective than topicals, because there would be no problems with absorption

So do you think it might be an option?

It's posssible but know that DHT connect's to the androgen receptors and then the immune system see's the hair folicles as a foreign body and attack it causing male pattern baldness. I am not aware of anyone that know's weather or not if any other substance connected to the androgen receptors weather or not the immune system would see the hair folicles as a foreign body and attack it.

It's a very good point out pointed out lordhair, it would be good if someone conducted an study into the matter.
