Possible male pattern baldness?

Hello all.

I did a search in the forum, but I'm not sure what to look for. So, here is my story.

I'm 30, and I have a receding hairline.

I didn't used to pay much attention to my hair, but in the last 15-18 months I noticed that I have a slowly receding hairline, no noticeable shedding. In the last one month I started getting a bit obsessive about it. I've been reading the forums, and to be honest, I think I'm stage 2/3 male pattern baldness.

Anyway, I had a very stressful 2007, and most of my hairloss took place in 2007. I'm kinda hoping that I had a stress related hair loss and that my hairline would come back. When I look very closely at my temples and front hair, I can see that I have some very short and thin hair where my normal hair used to be. The hair I'm talking about is about 5mm long and black, but thin. I tried to take a pic but my camera was hopeless.

Is that short and thin hair my hairline recovering from temporary hairloss due to stress, or do I have a permanent male pattern baldness?

I think I'm just being wishful :). Hey, dreaming doesn't hurt anyone!!! I suppose, I'll find out in a few months, if the short and thin hair grows or not.

Thanks for your attention.

Stress related hair loss doesn't come in male pattern baldness patterns.

No, that's actually hair going away. You're likely to see good results with Rogaine in those areas.

And if you're receeding, it's male pattern baldness.

thanks for your input.

I might visit my GP one day. I haven't been to the GP for 6-7 years, and I'm not sure if this is something they look at.

According to the NHS direct, a GP is supposed to give advice on the matter.

thanks

Hi guys,

one more question.

Basically, my dad and mom have pretty healthy looking hair, even in their 60s. But my uncles have Einstein sort of look, and they are in their 70s. I saw a pic of my uncles in their early 50s and I would say they were somewhere in NW4, and one of them more like NW5.

When I was looking at the old pictures, now that I know what I'm looking at, I noticed that I was NW1 for most of my 20s. I would say my hair has been changing since I was 21-22. It's taken me almost 10 years to get from NW1 to NW2, so it's not that bad.

Looking at the family history, can I draw the conclusion that my bolding will be very slow? I mean, I never noticed any shedding, I pay attention during showers and there is nothing aggressive there. I wouldn't mind NW4 look in my 40s and 50s, I think it looks cool on one of my uncles.

Thanks.

Ali....

Your family Doctor may not be much help... esp NHS one... they are like... your 30... thats life...

phone "boots" up, ask them where their nearest "hair Retention" clinic is (only the really big boots have these... i travel 20 miles to manchester for mine...

They will ivnvite you for an apptiontment, tell you what Norwood scale you are at and off you a presription for Propecia (what you might read on this board called "finasteride")

its £90 for 3 months worth... but you can buy them online much cheaper. But i use boots, i know exactly what im getting, that it is 100% genuine and that i am on a programme, and they are monitoring for any progress every few months....

buy yourself come 5% minoxidil either liquid or foam online....

also in boots you can buy Nizoral shampoo

These three things are the best you can do, and you could be one of the lucky ones who responds well and all them tiny miniturized hairs you have might thicken up back to as they used to be....

Also nip into "Hollan & Barrat" you can buy Silca tablets they are about £10 for 120 (so whould last you 3 months or so)tablets, Silica is a natural herb extract and full of minerals that halp hair grow.

Also worth buying MSM... either in Tablet or powder, this is just bassically sulpher and is what your body produces naturally, it is like the bodies natural anti-inflamitory so it helps your joints, people with mild artheritis take it, but there is a strong inclination that it can help fight hairloss as it can reduce inflimation in the follicles where DHT has been strangling it, cuasing them hairs to miniturise...

See "Firsts" success thread.... he uses MSM

hope this helps....

Cheers

Thanks for your reply...

the clinic you visit, is that the big "boots" in the market street/arndale centre (I went to manchester uni in the 90s)? boots online store locator doesn't work at the moment. I'll check it again in the future, and see where my nearest hair Retention centre is.

your advice sounds good to me. Talking to a specialist is a good start, then I can make an informed decision.

As you say, that's life. I don't feel too bad about it..

Cheers

At the moment, I'm in the UK so I have to go with boots. Don't forget that I'm a newb and I need to be shown the way.

But in the long run, I might be able to get them subsidised as part of my insurance (I'll start a new job at one point, and insurance will be paid). I read in the Portuguese guys' thread that one of the guys gets a prescription on his dad's name and claims it part of his health insurance. That sort of gave me that idea that if I can get a proper medical prescription, I might be able to do the same.

£90 is way too much for me at the moment, I'm extremely stretched. but, sacrifices must be made.
