possible effects of stopping finasteride temporarily?

Hi everybody,
I've been on 1mg finasteride for about 5 months now and i believe I've had positive results from it although I've been getting lots of shedding since the last month.
I have a skin problem too and my dermatologist gave me a medicine for it and stopped finasteride temporarily(about 1 month) as he says that its not recommended to take both these medicines at the same time.
Unfortunately he also believes that stopping finasteride does not take away the positive results it has given me thus far, which is contrary to what I've read over here and many other sites that stopping finasteride can cause my hair count to return to the way it was when i started it.
What should I do? Should I continue taking finasteride or is it ok to wait for some time before getting back on it?

well your Doctor is wrong....if you stop using finasteride....all your gains are lost. Not in 1 month though.

I suspect stopping for a month will cause a minor setback....it usually only takes 1 day for the finasteride to be out of your system...However it takes a week or two for your dht level to reach your pre-propecia state.

I do not think you will lose that much ground if you absolutely have to stop for a month. Think about it...1 month is nothing in the hair loss game....It really wont make or break you....but it *could* delay your progress.

Good luck

just out of curiousity, what is the other medication your Doctor is saying wont mesh well?

I wasn't aware of any major drug interactions with finasteride...

I am probably gonna get back on 1mg finasteride. I don't want to take the risk of waiting one month to find out how badly it affects me. I don't think there will be any big problem taking these two at the same time. My Doctor just doesn't recommend it which is mainly due to his lack of knowledge of the fact that once you start taking propecia you are on it for life. By the way, the other drug that i was prescribed to take was this:
