Politicians and their hair

I don't intend this to be a topic where we can discuss politics, rather about politicians and their hair. From my experience, many politicians that i've seen on tv generally have thinning hair or are bald.

For example, the former prime minister of Australia John Howard:

Ok maybe not the best example, since he is rather old..but i remember seeing an old video of him in his 30's with very thin and whispy hair.

Australia's current prime minister has a strange head of hair i think, Kevin Rudd

Gordon Brown has a nice head of hair for his age

And when he was young, not sure how old he was though

Boris Tadic president of Serbia looks very good for his age (in his 50's), no doubt having a good head of hair contributes to it

Tony Blair has lost a good portion of his hair, but at least it suits his age

And when he was younger

In America politicians have hair in a much higher percentage than the regular population. In fact, I don't think there has been one bald president since Martin Van Buren in the mid 1800s.

I'm not surprised by the Serbian guy. Serbians typically have ridiculously good heads of hair. Check out.

Djokovic:

Former political figure, Radavan Karadzic. (This guy IMO has the most outrageous hairline for his age I've ever seen).

Berlusconi's hair changes from photo to photo

I'm sure I've read he's had a hair transplant but a lot of times it looks like concealer. I guess he's pretty vain about his looks given the amount of affairs he has.

I remember at a press conference in 2004, Berlusconi was asked about his hair transplant and said that he believed his more youthful image made him a better ambassador for Italy.

“I have taken one of the choices of modern life,â€￾ he said at the time. “It is a way of showing respect to those who share your life, your family. It is a way of showing respect to those who expect you to represent them on an international and national stage.â€￾

Strange I've found the opposite to be true especialy the ones who are the most mainstream or leading party figures.
And I think its a recent trend, previous generations either did'nt cate or preffered their leaders to look like distinguished, worldy or noble men, men who look like they have aquired knowledge. These days it seems that they want some 40 (ish) yr old with a cheesy smile a tan and nice hair.
Could this be related to the recent Simon Cowell phenomenon in the future will we see the election played out on saturday evenings in a Politician Idol type show?

Probably because all i've been seeing on tv here in Australia this past decade is John Howard and his bald head :p along with his treasurer who was also thinning too.

Here's another guy, Kiro Gligorov, he was the first democratically elected president of Macedonia. He's 92 years old!

And i believe he's either in his late 70's or early 80's here

There was some research done on politicians, I read about this years ago so my memory of it is not great, but politicians who had hair on top, and clean shaven were seen as the most trustworthy, as opposed to moustaches and beards, and baldness. The research was based on first physical impressions and found that the way politicians talked and looked was more important than their actual policies.

I don't think the UK and USA have had a bald leader for a long time.
