Friends,
I feel compelled to tell you my finasteride sorry. Around the middle of August I began to take generic finasteride that I purchased online from a foreign company. I can’t say for certain, but it was most likely from India. My girlfriend had been teasing me about losing my hair and being an overly sensitive and vain person I decided to try the drug. After around two to three weeks I began to get the sexual side effects. I wasn’t really losing my hair that badly so I promptly dropped the medication. It was the standard 1 mg size. My last dose was round September 10. After the last dose nothing really happened. I felt that everything was the same as on finasteride, but then one morning I woke up and my penis had shriveled up to almost nothing. My testicles were tight as a drum and my when I tried to flex my penis it would retract into my body. It looked like I was in puberty. The following seven weeks can only be described as complete castration. I remember being out and thinking that this what it feels like to be completely asexual. Scariest moment I have ever had. After about seven weeks I began a slight recovery. The worst symptoms went away. The extreme shrinkage and retracting into the body, but I had almost no libido. I think I had three night time erections in the first seven weeks, but started to get them more frequently after. I can feel my penis much better than I could a month in a half ago. However my libido is almost zero. I have no sex drive at all. You could show me the hottest girl ever and I will not feel anything. Trying to masturbate is a huge chore and my penis feels like rubber and has low sensitivity. When I force myself to masturbate my orgasms are fine and it pleasurable. This is better that the first seven weeks. As of now I have not recovered my libido at all. My penis continues to fluctuate between an upgraded looking puberty state and a flaccid state that often has massive scrotum skin hanging off my testicles.

About me. I’m 6’0 feet 215 pounds and am very muscular. 33 years old. I had zero libido problems before finasteride. I have never taken steroids and use basic vitamins. My exercise routine is 4 to 5 times a week with spinning and lifting. Neither has done anything to bring my libido back. Something I find shocking. Mental sides never happened or gyno. Cialis and other ED drugs do not work because my sexual function remains so extreme. Imagine going to gym, working out and coming home but still not feeling your sex drive appear. I have been to the doctor to have hormone tests. Only testosterone, but it was well within the average range.

I am here because I want people to understand how crazy the side effects can be if you get hit hard by the drug. Do not take your sexual health for granted if you are on the drug. It can collapse almost overnight. You will not care at all about your hair if you get sexual sides as bad as I have. I still hold out hope that things will get better, but it gets more difficult as time goes on and patience wears thin. In my spare time I read a lot. Luckily, I have done a lot of reading about the history of medicine and the huge amounts of mistakes that I have been made. Just think about how wrong the thermodynamic thesis of weight loss has played out. A diabetes epidemic. I only bring this up because finasteride has only been around for 15 years. It is still not long enough to know what longterm sides could be. I pray every night that my sex life returns and it probably will, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do. T replacements and other hormone altering drugs are too scary right now. Even if this does happen to you you can still go out and live life. Enjoy times with friends and family. If you are out there suffering my heart and prayers go out to you.

Regards.
Bob

you took it for 2-3 weeks. sides are common in that period. You should have continued and the sides would most likely have disappeared

It was after I stopped that things went nuts. I am just telling my story. I realize how difficult it is to lose your hair

Bob,

Thanks for sharing your story. Stories like yours are the reason why I've never used finasteride or minoxidil. I believe a healthy diet, good workout regimen, super short buzz cut and possibly a tan (if you have no risk factors for skin cancer) are the best things for someone losing his hair. We can all be successful and confident without the drugs.

Best of luck to you with your recovery.

I am agree with you, because every remedy has some side effects on the health, so iot is better to treat your hair loss problem naturally with the help of of healthy diet, exercise and healthy life style.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I don't believe that people should continue after 2-3 weeks of side effects. In fact, I never had any side effects on propecia other than some ball pain at first for a few days. But libido actually increased as did my erections. So my guess is those who get side effects at first should be careful.

I took it for a year 26 to 27 .. the sides didn't go away during the time I was taking it .. it's a damn shame because it got the job done .. worked like a doozy .. no more hair loss and kept what I had and the hair strengthened .. full head of hair again basically .. but those damn sides .. luckily I think I've fully recovered after all these years .. but I'm never quite sure

The truth is almost any medication you take is going to have potential side effects attached. Before taking ANY medication that is a discussion you need to have with yourself and your doctor and decide if the risks are worth the benefits for yourself.

So you make a good point, but you should always start assuming the worst side effects, try out the medication and see how it goes for you.

Placebo alert. Propecia causes very little to no sides. Actually, sides are a rare abnormality. Just like people being allergic to fish. I bet you are just one of those guys who want to scare us into stopping taking finasteride so we, too, go bald and are less of a competition. Nice try, buddy. Nice try.
