Please help me about differences with Propecia and Proscar

I went to a dermatologist and got a prescription for propecia (1mg). When I asked about proscar (the genetic form of proscar exists and there is no genetic form of propecia although both are finasteride) he was very hesitant about proscar and my young age (early 20s).

I wanted the generic form of proscar since it is much cheaper and is the same active ingredient (5mg finasteride) as propecia (1mg finasteride). So what is the issue with taking a 5mg finasteride/proscar that is not an issue with propecia? Why would it be a concern for a dermatologist exactly?

Also another important question about shedding: I've read that shedding can occur with propecia but my doctor told me that since I am in the very early stages that shedding will not occur. I'd like to get some verification to this, for piece of mind. Is shedding likely? How great can it be?

Go to another practioner and simply just ask for finasteride - the cheap version for hair retention.
For f***'s sake finasteride is more effective if you take it BEFORE you lose it.

I did just that. 1/4 tablet proscar a day 1/4 of 5mg is a similar dose to 1mg (Propecia tablet)

As for shedding, we all shed hair, some of us are seasonal, but hair loss guys grow less back every time. Results vary and thewre is no totally effective treatment. Do more research.

Propecia is more abour retention and Minoxodil is more about stimulating the remaining hairs to look darker/longer (appearance of thicker hair).
