I went to a dermatologist and got a prescription for propecia (1mg). When I asked about proscar (the genetic form of proscar exists and there is no genetic form of propecia although both are finasteride) he was very hesitant about proscar and my young age (early 20s).
I wanted the generic form of proscar since it is much cheaper and is the same active ingredient (5mg finasteride) as propecia (1mg finasteride). So what is the issue with taking a 5mg finasteride/proscar that is not an issue with propecia? Why would it be a concern for a dermatologist exactly?
Also another important question about shedding: I've read that shedding can occur with propecia but my doctor told me that since I am in the very early stages that shedding will not occur. I'd like to get some verification to this, for piece of mind. Is shedding likely? How great can it be?
