Hello

I would appreciate if any ouput from anyone.

I am very reluctant to take propecia becos of possible sides. However in recent months i have noticed that my hair is thinning more than ever and that i now have bold patches. At this stage my temples are crown are still relativly full but i think that if i dont take drastic action now then i will deffo loose my hair soon.

Please advise me what you think i should do? I really dnt want to experience the sides others have mentioned but also im really worried about going bald.

Will a lower dosage reduce any chances of sides?

I appreciate the time you will take out in replying. Thanks very much kind regards.

Sorry for any spelling errors.

Just take finasteride. You are more likely to NOT experience side effects, but if you do, just stop taking it.

Take finasteride. I would always suggest people to try the 1mg finasteride from Merck first. Try it for a year. Once you know it works, and money is an issue, convert to the generic version.

Finasteride does not have major side effects. I have been on it for 8 years and no side effects.

If you have patches - you may have alopecia areata. See a doctor first!

Hello, Thank you for your input lads. As a result i thought lets go and see my doctor and see what he says:

I was prescribed finasteride! My doctor even asked me to wait until the end of the day soo he could do further research on finasteride.

He rung me at the end of the day and said that a prescription was ready and that the drug was very effective. He told me that he was very sure that i wouldnt have sides and said his advice was to try it. Also he told me that he has old folks on the drug who take the 5mg propecia pill with no complaints. And my dosage would be 1 He told me that it wont even feel as if im on something and if i did have side affects they will disapper once i stop taking the pill. He agreed that its best if i start taking 0.25 for the first two days and then 0.5 for another 2 days and then 1 and see how it goes. Im thinking about just taking 0.25 and see how it goes. What do you think?

Hes reassured me but im still a bit scared!

Yeah its all imaginary, when you start getting gyno don't worry because if you stop looking for it, it will disappear magically by the power of suggestion. Totally responsible advice to tell someone to just do something without properly telling them the ins and outs.

Gibson for your doctor to say old guys on propecia don't complain about sides doesn't surprise me.They already have flabby moobs and no libido anymore to begin with. Whats to lose

Take it

Put it like this. If you are one of the unlucky ones who experience any real side effects YOU WILL KNOW.

And what do u do then? You stop. No big deal.

Maybe one in a thousand have a very bad experience with it but generally the side effects will be very tame at worst.

Your choice though.

None of you guys mentioned that some people get permanent side effects from finasteride, even after many months of quitting. I just think it's right to tell the whole truth, not just "if you get sides, just stop taking it". Yes, not impossible, just highly unlikely.

I wish you the best m.gibson, and hope it works out for you.

Some people get hit by lightning, some people get attacked by sharks, some people get into a plane crash. But I still swim in the ocean, I still ride on planes.
The vast majority of Millions of finasteride users develope NO SIDE EFFECTS PERIOD! Only a TINY minority 2% develope side effects, There is one side effect that scares me- the side effect of not taking finasteride, which is going bald!

finasteride doesn't stop baldness, it's not a cure, it just a lot of people experience good hair results using it. Even if you have results for many years, I doubt they would last, I hear finasteride losses effectiveness eventually.

I'm not telling the OP to not take finasteride, I am just telling him the FULL story, not just most of it.

Yes, you can get permanent sides from finasteride, because it's a drug that messes up a lot in your body and nobody understands what exactly. But studies have been done and many of the side effects have already been proven. Stopping DHT synthesize which is also a very important process is certainly not the only action finasteride does -- there are more hormones that 5AR2 enzyme is responsible of.
And the dose doesn't matter very much. The question is more like, if you poison yourself at all or not, if you are sensitive to 5AR2 inhibiting.

You need to get your information regaurding a medication ,from doctors and scientific studies, not an internet message board, full of grown men playing doctor! look the fda spent millionos of dollars on clinical trials evaluating finasteride for safety and effiency, they found finasteride to be a very safe drug, with only a 2% minority who experianced side effects, of this 2% side effects were reported to subside after treatment stopped, there were no perminant side effects reported in the fda clinical trials.

agreed

m.gibson, what you decide is your choice but I am telling you now, side effects of finasteride are very real. Not everyone experiences them but I can tell you, that the "only 2% get finasteride sides" quote is BS.

Permanent side effects from finasteride are real and do happen but it's rare. There is a very good chance that if you get sides and you don't like them, that you can quit and the sides will eventually go.

Although I haven't done so myself (I am thinking about it). I would recommend you unscented 5% topical spironolactone (Not oral, as this helps to start you turning into a female)

A few doctors including one below suggest NOT to use finasteride. For more information, see the link below:

Personally, I truly doubt the static. that was given by them, seem alot more than 2% people suffer on it, but of coz it can be the mind that's playing the trick. But let's be realistic, the sides will go away for like 99% for sure after you quit using finasteride...
