Placebo effect

Is there such a thing as a negative placebo effect?

What if I were to participate in a clinical trial for a hairloss med called Finasteride..
They put me in a darkroom. The doctor comes into the room feeling around like a blind man.
His hands find my slick head and he briefly slap a beat on my head. Then he rests is hands on my shoulders and says, "today's your lucky day, we are going to give you the sugar pill.
We don't know where it came from, the postage says Thailand. We don't know if it is authentic sugar pill or not, hell for all we know it could be chalk, or perhaps bird droppings.
You know they have bird flu over there." Then he puts his hand on my cheek and pats my cheek hard almost slapping it and says "you scumbag, you're not going to grow any hair"
He turns around a walks into the wall. "I forgot to tell you we will probably cut the pills into 1/4ths maybe even 1/5ths."

In reality they give me authentic whole Propecia pills.
What would be the effect of a study like this? Of course with all the other controls for the study in place.

Would I grow mushrooms on my head?

the real study shows more improvement with the real deal..

it's like 82% effective
and the placebo was like 11% effective.

i suppose if the peopel who took the placebo were told it was a sugar pill, they wouldnt have had regrowth..
dunno.

I think you would get symptoms of the bird flu and be forced to discontinue treatment.

Those of us with stronger minds would see a slowdown of their hairloss.

Hmmm, an interesting question but personally I feel you would still grow hair and have no negative placebo effect.
