Pimples underneath the unit after 7/8 days

Many thanks to the forum members on here that took the time to help guide me in this process. As my handle states, I've bald/shaven for over 20 years and only by accident, I discovered how hair systems have evolved to a point where it is almost undetectable. I did as much research as possible, but I felt asking for personal opinions straight from the users was the best way to make to help me make an informed decision.

So I went ahead and decided to give this a try and finally had my first install about 8 days ago. Overall, it has been a positive experience, but still feel short of expectations. The positive is there is still tons of room for improvements. After all, I always knew there would be an adjustment period to get that right style I want and it would be through trial and error.

Today I had no choice but to remove my unit due to discomfort sensations from the back of my head/crown area. I started scratching it recently and realize small bumps were forming which felt like pimples. I thought I could ignore it and let it go away but I caught myself scratching it way to often and under an abundance of caution, decided to take off the unit to examine my scalp.

My initial thoughts were correct, but it wasnt as bad as expected in terms of redness and milkiness. Maybe because it was discovered early and would eventually turn into nasty pimples. However there were 4 times as many pimples than I was expecting.

I was hoping for some advice on how to avoid this and also to learn the cause of the problem. Was it the ghost bond or the miniture ingrown hair trapped by the poly unit? Or maybe my body chemistry requires more frequent cleansing of the area?

Thanks everyone

I get a couple... from time to time...

Do you use scalp protector?
I'm unsure what was given to me at the salon. I just remember her washing my scalp after partially shaving around the top and applying some sort of wet liquid which could have been plain rubbing alcohol for a better bond. When I reapply my unit after this issue subsides a bit, I will definitely use scalp protector.

May be due to the type of base you are using. Whenever I use to wear hats I would get pimples on my forehead from the sweat building up and not being able to breath.

Maybe you would do better with a lace base.

Do you sweat a lot?

This often happens to me when I wear my system which has poly back and sides as oppose to full lace. I get a spots all along the tape line which sometimes require some steroid cream and a few days of not wearing a system. I guess it's because the skin can't breathe at all through the poly. Tape on lace doesn't cause me such severe problems.

Sometimes the method of shaving can cause spots. Are you shaving with a razor? Maybe try an electric trimmer instead so that you're not shaving away the skin.

I'm currently using a poly and glue to bond . I barely sweat and I live in mild climate. I think it's the glue or lack of using a scalp protector. I'll try it with tape and see how that goes when the pimple subsides a bit.

It's day 4 and the redness is starting to fade. what type of steroid cream do you use? I don't want to go 4-6 days without a unit in the future if I can avoid it.

Do you get pimples with lace systems where the tape is used?

I'm naturally clean as a whistle up there. Never ever had this issue before when I used to mach3 my sides off. Only started when I wore my unit for the first time last week.

Going to try a different glue and then tape.

I've been using a prescription cream which I got for a flare up of Rosacea once. I probably shouldn't be using it at all. I can get some slight itching with tape and lace, but not the rashes or spots I get with poly.

I think deg_dilemma is right about using an electric razor. My skin is extremely dry, so I think wet shaving before sticking something to my skin is far too harsh.
