my problem is that the hair at the temples and hairline wont seem to grow more than a half inch or so. those f*****g stupid hairs.

Those red blotches are probably irritated spots. i've noticed when examining my scalp that sometimes it's a little reddish. This is new. Probably connected to how ive been RAPIDLY f*****g BALDING the last few months.

ew, i hate this.

This is an inflammation rseponse, common sign for AA.

well comb your hair forward.

my hair line and temples are so thin it sucks. you can actaully count the hairs in a 1 inch circle.

now before people start talking about how i have so much hair. I dont. I've lost a lot. and it's noticable to people.

my hair sits dead flat.. wispy diffused thinning.

Jeff,

Your pics are difficult to interpret, but I think I see some fringing of the hair along the hairline. If so, I believe that this may be a good sign. I have read that this "fringing" is a sign of regrowth following effluvia.

Do you have other pics?

Jeff from what I'm seeing, you are still in the beginning stages of male pattern baldness. In fact, had I seen you on the street, it wouldn't have even occurred to me. I'm not saying you're not experiencing hairloss, nor downplaying your situation...what I'm saying is that you've caught it at the right time. Your density, while perhaps not what you're accustomed to, is much higher than most guys when they decide to take action. The treatments tend to do better earlier in the cycle. Feel good about that! No, feel GREAT about that!

thanks man.

that was really motivational.. the second I noticed a lot of hairs falling out is when i went to the dermatologist.

at that time i was indeed losing 30 hairs.. some in the shower.. some while i was putting gel in my hair or whatever....

when people asked me why i was on propecia, i told them b/c my hair was beginging to fall!! noone believed me.. they thought i was crazy..

now 4 months later.. nothing has really changed.. i still lose quite a bit of hair every day.. I'm hoping that my propecia will work for me soon.

so far my hair is just falling!!!!!!!

re:

I would say your situation is very similar to mine, however I do not know your age (I am 25). I am mostly a thinner with slight recession. I have been on the big three for about 10 months now and all I can say is that the medications are certainly doing something. In areas where I went through bad sheds, new thin hair began coming in at about 4.5 months. Overall I am still disappointed with my hair but I am doing all I can and that is all one can ask.
The density of my hair shaft does not seem to have changed since the start of the treatment, but I feel like I have more coverage (and photos to back me up) but not too much. I go through times when I shed a lot, then nothing and then right back to a shed. In fact, one day I'll have good hair day where there is solid volume and the next day I look horrible almost like I am wearing a piece.
I think we both must accept that our hair is thinning and we will no longer get to style it much at all. Hopefully we are way ahead of the game because we cought our male pattern baldness so early. We shall see, but again all I can remind you is that you have to stay grounded. finasteride is no miracle drug but it is well worth it if I can save your hair for a few extra years. However, in my opinion it is not going to grow your hair back perfect or even close to perfect.
It is funny, someone in work was joking about another bald employee and pointed me out as someone who does not have to deal with baldness, but when I look in the mirror I think I look like everyone knows I am really going bald. I'm learning to cope with the idea that baldness in no way defines my character.
Also, for the first time in my life I find myself constantly looking at other guys hair. But 12 months ago (before starting finasteride or accepting my male pattern baldness) I never once looked at another dudes hair and never really looked at my own hair. Now my hair has really not changed since 12 months ago, yet I am always lookng in mirrors and judging every dude I see. Why can't I go back to the person I was twelve months ago? Awful!
BTW, I do not intend for my comments to be offensive to others who are fighting there male pattern baldness but cought their condition later in the game (i.e. Norwood-3s through Norwood-5s)

Re: re:

I feel the same way my friend. I've just turned 26.
there isnt much i can do with my hair to style it. my hair is wispy and thin. fourtunatly I don't have a bald spot on the back of my head "yet" but when it's wet, the world can see scalp. you can pick any given spot on the top of my head... spread the hairs. and see that it's thinned out everywhere. sucks.

i wish i could hault male pattern baldness in it's tracks.

My situation is similar to yours, although you have darker hair (which I think is better for thinning) and less temporal recession.

Also, I'm 21. How have your Propecia sides been? Fighting with the idea of getting on it.

i think lighter hair with darker complexion would bet better for thinning.

i havent had sides from propecia. my nipples got a little puffy, but i took stuff to counteract that.

but i havent had any results yet either on month 4.

but it says 3-12, so i'm keeping the faith.

What did you take to counteract it?

I think we all think everyone else is better off that us, lol. Once you see yourself a certain way it doesn't matter what everyone else sees. Balding is as much mental as it is physical, cause while you think you look horrible, you may look just fine to everyone else.
