Permanent Damage from Propecia

If I remember, there was an Irish guy who used to post on this board a while ago (can't remember his name) who said he'd taken Propecia for a few days which screwed up his 'dingus' as he put it and never recovered. I start Propecia tomorrow and this is the sort of thing that scares the crap out of me. Has there been many other cases of this permanent effect?

not me, I'm just not as easily aroused that and the watery semen. Concentration owns me now

I know of several people (myself and Trilidon, that "Irish guy," included) with long-term sexual problems from Propecia. I met most of them on these boards and by setting up an email group so that I could get in touch with other people in my situation. I don't know exactly how common situations like mine are, but I imagine they are relatively rare.

No progress yet Hair?

Damn bro, I'm pulling for ya.

I'll post an update soon, under the "Hair Mchair's story" thread. I hope to have a website up soon too. It will document stories like mine. I should mention that it won't be "anti-Propecia" per se but will simply offer information that I hope will be useful to other people in my situation.

Hair, in what month did your side effects develop?

Very hard for me to say. I believe they came on very gradually, very slowly, progressively getting worse over time. I was slow to notice what was happening because I was single, I was overjoyed at what Propecia was doing for my hair, and I was not at all concerned about side effects because Merck says that less than 2% of men have side effects and that all side effects resolve upon discontinuation of Propecia (I also didn't frequent these forums back then so there was no scare-mongering).

I know for certain though that I did not have side effects right away because I was with a girl briefly, maybe a month or two after starting Propecia, and didn't have any noticeable problems at that time. However, a few of the people I've met online (like PolarBear, who used to post here) had problems from the very beginning. Everyone is completely different in how they react to drugs I suppose.

What month did your side effects become noticable? Without saying to much I'm curious how long it was before things were really bad.

Hmmm. Let's see. I might've noticed softer erections and less sensitivity around month 7. Definitely by month 12. Stopped Propecia after 14 and a half months after having sex for the first time with the girl I was dating then. There's a big difference between jacking off with crappy erections and having sex with crappy erections.

very interesting hair. thanks for the info. i'm a bit concerned about this information. i am on month 10 or treatment and i'm beginning to experience softer erections. i have been concered about this for about 4 months and wasn't sure if it was progressively getting worse or not. i have had an actively healthy sex life this past year but recently i have had a really hard time getting fully aroused when i'm with women. it's not like i have lost my libido at all, i still think about sex often, and want to have sex. the problem is i just cant get fully aroused.

this all came to a breaking point this weekend when a girl that i've been dating (and who i'd like to become committed to) and i were in bed together and i couldn't maintain a full erection when i was having sex with her. this had to be one of the most embarassing moments of my life and i really didn't make a good impression on her. her and i will often go drinking together and a lot of the times we have sex when we're not completely sober. but on saturday that night we were completely sober and i just wasn't all there.

basically, i'm at a serious crossroads with everything. propecia isn't even working for me so i dont really have any reason NOT to quit, but at the same time there was a part of me that was hoping that it would eventually kick in. i'm going to make sure this isnt a passing thing by laying off any masturbation for a little bit, but in all honesty, i'm severly worried.

Definitely can relate with your post, Bombscience. I feel like the sexual side effects have gotten worse, and I just don't feel like dealing with it anymore. I'm going to get on L-arginine for a month to see if it helps, but if not, I'm going to have to quit. It's getting to the point where I just don't have confidence before I get in bed with a woman. Like 1 out of 3 times, I have serious trouble getting it up, and it's discouraging me to no end.
Consider the HairLossTalk.com regimen, with spironolactone twice a day and revivogen once a day. I can't handle that many topicals, so I think I'll just try revivogen, which I'm on already.
Good luck.

L-Arginine definately helped my 'erection' problems, I also 'seem' to be ejaculating more!

hair mchair, did u try something like l-arginine first? surely if we r spending so much money etc on our hair we should consider other alternatives to dropping propecia, like libido stimulants. i would.

I've tried pretty much everything since I stopped Propecia. Nothing has worked so far.
