Many people claim that you are "safe" when you reach 35+ with the perfect hair and say that u might never go bald from that point on. But do you guys have examples of people that made it to their 40s with a perfect nw1 or 2 and then all of a sudden got bald or at least lost extreme amount of hair? I cant think of any1.

I don’t know if he had perfect hair but Matt Lauer started his 40s with a lot of hair and ended up bald.

My dad had like a perfect head of hair (like a Norwood 1.5 at the worse) in his 40s now in his very late 50s (59) is like a diffusing Norwood 2. I don't think the average person would consider him balding though.

A diffuse nw2 at age 60 is actually quite good.

I think most men with a full head of hair by 50 are going to have some diffuse thinning except for men who are immune to balding like actor Ed Quinn who I posted in another thread.

God I hope that’s not me. But at 40 diffuse has kicked in and no sign of slowing even on oral minoxidil. Concerned adding Finasteride im scared that’s it’s just a dice role that can make the diffuse far worse. All of the hair feels different the sensation is there even though the scalp is super clean.

Michael Caine still had great hair in his 40's but is now completely bald.

Billy Joel also had full hair entering his 40's and then it just disappeared.

Edit : Stevie Wonder is another one.

I don't think it will make it worse. However, if you are not a good responder to finasteride, you won't get any better. And finasteride does not work great on the hair line which is where you are most concerned right now. The key is to have lots of density at the start. You do. Unfortunately in my case, I have a thyroid issue at the same time. So diffuse loss is always going to happen. I also did not have as good as density as you did.

You remind of this guy I used to talk to alot a decade ago on the forums. His hair was very similar to yours and it got diffuse like yours. I lost touch with him so I don't know how his hair is today.

I'm pretty sure that my 30s will be vital. Im currently 28 and Im quite sure that between 28-35 I will start seeing the biggest diffrences, lets just hope this quite mild.

I think I have some thyroid mix into his as well. I was but in synthroid 6ish months before I noticed the first major shed.

@DoctorHouse what was you experience with thyroid meds? I’m tempted to restart a T3 med to correct the hypo and hopefully help conditions for regrowth but I know the meds can cause loss.

I’m just worried that the Finasteride might knock out hairline and other factors will limit regrowth potential. I can’t deny the miniaturized hair all over.

I take a low dose of synthroid and I don't feel any better with it. I have Hashimoto's so it does nothing for me. I try to avoid inflammatory foods as much as I can.

Not much you can do for Hashimoto's but wait until your thyroid kills itself.

When your talking a condition like male pattern baldness where hardly anything is even understood about it I think its safe to say anything can happen. Your certainly never safe from male pattern baldness anymore then your safe from developing cancer or any of a million other diseases. The only constant in life is change.
What gets better as you get older? Not much so if you have great hair at 40 or 50 id be happy but its not for sure you dont lose that hair a month later. Anything can happen

My father had a thick Norwood 1.5 until around his late 40’s. Then he started receding slowly and is now around a NW3-3.5. No thinning, though.

How old is he now?
