Painful spots on scalp

Anyone else getting painful spots where they are losing hair? They started when I began losing hair and are getting quite bad now.

What can I do to stop them? I use nizoral twice a week already but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

I used to get painful spots on my vertex until I started the Finasteride. Now that I've been off it for a month, I can feel some general discomfort in that area. I'm not sure there's much that can be done about it but maybe try the Nizoral an extra day a week and stay on the finasteride.

Before getting on anti-androgens, my entire scalp was in tremendous pain in a Norwood 6 pattern. :x

But seriously though, everything's much better on treatment. The area of my scalp with the most pain is on my left temple, and that's also the same spot where I've experienced the most hair loss, so that certainly means something. I do experience a lot of discomfort behind my ears, on my nape, vertex, mid-scalp, temple points, and my entire frontal third. It's always important to keep in mind that Androgenetic Alopecia doesn't follow any rules.

I think you have ringworm or fungal infections on your scalp, this is also called as Tinea capitis. This infection affects your scalp, causing small patches of itchy , scaly.

Symptoms of ringworm

• brittle hair
• painful scalp
• swollen lymph nodes (glands that help the body fight off infection)
• low-grade fever

Treatments

The leading anti-fungal medications for ringworm are griseofulvin and terbinafine hydrochloride. Both are oral medicine that you take for six weeks.
But there are some side effects of this medicine.

You should visit a doctor. you have some serious scalp issue.

I am now on dutasteride but I have only been on it for 2 weeks so I probably haven't taken enough for it to work. I will be back on finasteride this week so hopefully my scalp will calm down a bit.

Yeah, Minoxidil can cause excessive shedding in some cases, it's annoying when that happens. Seems like Minoxidil isn't for you if it's truly having an adverse affect.

Two weeks on Dutasteride is definitely not enough time to conclude if it's working for you. The thing is since you're taking that drug now, I honestly think there is no point in continuing Finasteride. It won't make much sense if you're planning on taking both since Dutasteride already does everything Finasteride does plus more. Other than that, hopefully your scalp calms down.

think i legit have this, i shaved my head to a 1 last year, realized I had these little circles all over the sides of my head where no hair grew. There is one side in particular where u can clearly see it. Its definately not MBP related.

I am only taking dutasteride once a week and moving up to twice a week eventually, so I think I may need finasteride as well. Tbh I am not really sure if minoxidil was causing shedding but it was definitely making my scalp very irritated which was probably the alcohol/propylene glycol.

What does worry me though is that I made loads of hairs on my head minoxidil dependent (even though it didn't give regrowth) and now that I have stopped using it I will lose hair regardless of my regime.

Hmm to me it feels like I don't have ringworm and the spots/irritation is just male pattern baldness related. If it was ringworm related it would probably be a bit more uniform, instead the spots and irritation is only affecting male pattern baldness areas and progresses like male pattern baldness (i.e started getting at hairline first and then started at my vertex).
