Optimum amount of caffeine to add to shampoo?

I think it's helped me. Difficult to quantify though as I use SO much crap. I do know that when I dropped it for awhile - I had a little setback.

BTW - 2 teaspoons of caffeine to an 8oz bottle of shampoo is the way to go. I found a good source for powdered caffeine. I think I have a lifetime supply.

Finish Line, I know this is the experimental forum but it would still be good if you could cite a source when you make a post like that. It's not that I don't agree with you, maybe we do build up a tolerance to caffeine, but if you have a study then I would really like to read it for myself.

Could it be also that you're thinking of the tolerance we build up to the stimulant effects of caffeine? If that's what you have in mind then I don't agree that we would necessarily build up a tolerance to its use as a topical in the treatment of male pattern baldness. Like I said, this is all experimental so maybe you're right. It's not a certainty though and I definitely wouldn't call it a waste of time.

Hair Tomorrow, have you had any side effects from using caffeine shampoo, such as an irritated scalp? I was thinking of using Alpecin C1 on the off days from using Nizoral, but I believe you're not supposed to use Nizoral on an irritated scalp.

Also, how often do you use caffeine shampoo?

I've also been using Nizoral every other day. Is that dangerous to do in the long run? The bottle tells you to use Nizoral 3-4 times a week UP TO 8 WEEKS. I know that's for use in fighting dandruff, but are there reason for stopping at 8 weeks that aren't listed, such as it being for your liver or something?

No - no side effects.

I use caffeineted shampoo almost every day. Revita has caffeine in it - and I use that 4 - 5 x weekly.

I also added some caffeine to my bottle of Shen Min shampoo - and use that on my off-Revita days.

AFA your Nizoral use - everyone responds differently. I read recently somewhere (unitedpharmacies.com web site I think) that the ket in nizoral actually stays active and "continues to work" for several days - so that's why you're only supposed to or need to use 2x weekly. I use my ket 2% on Mondays and Fridays only. Again, revita also contains ket 1% - so I'm getting a daily dose one way or the other.

I think the liver consideration is more geared toward the oral ket.

Then why do you think the Nizoral bottle suggests a limit of 8 weeks?

From what I understand - we're really not sure of the mechanism,or why nizoral helps w/ hairloss.

The 8 week thing is for dandruff - not hairloss.

I realize the instructions are talking about the use of Nizoral for dandruff (which is what it's marketed for), but I was concerned that the 8-week limit might have to do with some negative effect that anyone using the shampoo for an extended time, for whatever reason, might be subject to. I'm going to call the hotline on the Nizoral bottle tomorrow and ask about it.

Okay, I made two calls to the 800-number on the Nizoral 1% bottle and talked with two specialists about the instruction on the bottle of not using the product for more than eight weeks without consulting a doctor. Putting together what they told me, the reason that warning is there is because the FDA requires it in a general way for products that are meant for a limited purpose like stopping scaling, etc. that this product is meant for. However, the only danger is that Nizoral could dry out your hair. I was told that it is okay to use it indefinitely, twice a week, just making sure you use a good conditioner. Liver damage was not a concern, I was told.
