I just noticed my hairline receding the other day and since i've been looking up online about hair loss and starting to get paranoid there could be something going on.

Some background info: had a lot of stress/anxiety for the past 2 months with college. Sneezing a lot aswell, think i had a fungal infection.

The other day i was looking at my webcam and noticed my hairline had hair missing and now has a white patch. I could see this really clearly because I was looking at my webcam in a dark room and I could see a white patch compared to my skin colour.

I think I lost this suddenly, dont really know, but i have also been playing with my fringe a lot aswell because of the stress - trichotillomania?

Could this just be a mature hairline forming? Or alopecia?

ps. im nearly 21 and im pretty sure my hairline has always been that high.

Its not very clear to see in the pics, but there is a white patch where I use to have hair. I threw a line to as a marker.

Looks to be around a NW1ish, your hairline goes straight across and i see no temple recession at all.

Yeah i think you are losing it, although in an unusual pattern. I have smiliar loss to you check my topic if you're able. My hair is receding in one whole progression so it looks like i just have an abnormally large forehead but in reality im losing ground, albeit slow.

Bad news is that finasteride and Rogaine are really not the best of drugs to help combat hairline recession. However, i have been on finasteride for 2 years and i believe its slowed my loss, not stopped but slowed. I wreckon you get on the big 3 over a gradual peiod and do the usual, take pictures ever 3 months and see if you are losing ground.

Thanks for the posts guys!

Is it normal to get pimples growing on your scalp and under your hair? I've been using a tea tree oil shampoo for the past week and applying lavender oil and thats helped the itchiness. Did some hypnotherapy for relaxation and immediately after felt my scalp going from tense to loose. Am i causing myself to lose hair by thinking about it - by being anxious?

Im confused about my hairline loss because for the past two months i've been playing with that part of my fringe because of stress - notice the way it only affects the left side? So i dont know if this receding hairline happened by itself or by me.

This is what prompt me to look into hair loss and got me concered about male pattern baldness. The receding hairline could be caused by me but at the same time, by coincidence, i could have male pattern baldness. Is there a way for a doctor or dermatologist to check for male pattern baldness?

cheers

It looks like you have a high hairline, but there's no evidence of male pattern baldness.

People lose hair in different patterns. I don't think a hairline that high is just a big forehead, I would say your entire hairline receded a bit over the years rather than just the corners. In fact I've seen hair loss pattern like that on the norwood scale. That being said, it doesn't mean you're going bald, it could just mean your hairline matured a little. Just keep an eye on it.

The only way to officially check for male pattern baldness in a situation like yours is to get your scalp mapped for miniaturization. If you are concerned, a good physician or dermatologist should be able to tell (In my experience, I would make sure that the Doctor is a male).

From what I saw in the picture it looks like you may have recession in your hairline based on the fact that the highest crease when you wrinkle your forehead is quite a ways away from the front of your hairline. But every hairline in different, yours could just be naturally high. Here's a post from Dr. Rassman on the way he deciphers male pattern baldness from a normal, mature hairline.
