Hello. I just recently started worrying about losing my hair. I am especially concerned about my hairline and that it seems to be creeping into more of a "U" shape. If you look at the pics of the hairline, the front hairs are more sporadic and I notice that the left side (my left) seems to creep in more towards the center than the right side. I notice the hairs aren't all that even at the front and there are areas where there isn't much density. To be honest, I'm not sure how long this has been like this, but I just recently noticed.

My friends and hairdresser are trying to tell me I have nothing to worry about, but I\m not sure I buy it. I trust you guys can be honest with me. Almost all males in my family have male pattern baldness and I want to do what I can to fight it at this stage. I'm 27.

Have a look:

(pics now placed below as originals WAY too big)

you should let your camera focus or hold it back at least. looks like blurry pics of a hairy pink blancmange :p

from what I can decipher, it does looks like you're thinning slightly at the front. and possibly the vertex. but need clearer pics than these really...

I see some recession and slight thinning in the frontal area. I am not sure about the crown though.

Pics should be smaller indeed and taken with Auto Focus.

Your hairdresser should be shot.

You're going to need hair transplants in my opinion, but if you want you can try minoxidil. Minoxidil can't hurt, except to cause a fat face from water retention but if you use it in moderation (which I rarely did) you will probably be okay. Don't use it right after a shower either, as you will increase your chances of systemic effects.

Your hair loss will continue on unless you do something besides minoxidil. I am no expert so I'm not one to say "you gotta treat DHT" but look at my regimen, and what's at the top. Peace.

Where would you guys place me on the Norwood scale?

Folicallychallenged - curious why you didn't mention finasteride or dutasteride as an option and automatically mentioned a hair transplant? Truthfully I would much rather have a hair transplant than have to have an extensive regimen to follow everyday, but from what I read I would have to wait until I have lost a lot more before that was an option.

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow.......am I at a stage that finasteride would be of help?

I said look at the top of my regimen....which is Avodart.

I'm sure tons of docs would do hair transplants...you I think are actually the perfect candidate....you have a hairline at teh front the Doctor can follow (just thicken up) and then he could surgically restore your left temple rather easily, without a lot of artistic skill needed.

2.5ish. yeah of course finasteride/dutasteride would help. try finasteride first though. a couple
of topicals may help to make you feel like youre doing something tangible but theres no need to go mad yet.

Thanks again for the replies guys. In terms of a hair transplant, you believe a Doctor would do this even before my hair has receeded more than it has? Or perhaps you are suggesting the possibility of doing it and then maintaining the rest with finasteride or dutasteride?

Right now I am ok with my hair. However I know that if I leave it be I will soon not be. Truth is I am constantly examining my hairline in the mirror and seeing the hairs becoming more spread apart at the front worries me. I don't think this is a maturing hairline......even if it is, I'm gonna lose it eventually if my family history is any indication.

My initial thought is to start finasteride and see how it goes after 6 -12 months. Part of me want to use rogaine as well but I'm hoping the finasteride can maintain what I have and I can't help but be worried about all the horror stories I have read about shedding with rogaine.

Keep the suggestions coming........

I think a Doctor would give you a hair transplant regardless of whether you use finasteride/dutasteride after. I think a good Doctor would recommend you consider finasteride.
Shedding isn't anything you should be fearing, in my opinion.

There's a million things you can be doing for hair loss. This forum is easy to read, you'll have to sift through a bunch of worthless posts but I was able to figure out a regimen for myself (which is restricted because of money....I'd be using Apple Poly if I could afford it) so you'll be able to as well. GLTY, honestly your hair looks bad but it is really good in terms of being able to fix. You are lucky, as am I, and although it can be a slow process, at least you have a process you can follow.

Straight to hair transplant? whoa dude...i definitely would not suggest that, big 3 it man (rogaine, finasteride, nizoral)..your hairloss isn't that bad at all...you are at an early stage. There is no reason at jumpin the guns and getting hair transplant when there is a possibility that you could grow the majority of your hair back with treatment. I would suggest at least trying the big 3 first. Take a look at the success diet cola had on the big 3. Rogaine foam did wonders in bringing his temples back....look at the pics on the first page....then look at the update on page 12. http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?t=32443
