Opinions on hairline; should I start finasteride?

Hello there,

Won't get into the whole story but I wanted everyone's opinion on my hairline and what to do.
I am 23 years old, have always had a cowlick/thick hair and have monitored my hairline carefully over the years. Admittedly there's been a slight change (whether that's just part of aging idk)

Anyways I wanted everyone's opinion on what I should do. I've been considering ordering finasteride online now to try and fix/catch it early because I don't truly know if it's going to get worse. At 23 I may be able to hold down a NW2 into my 30's or it gets progressively worse as I age. It's hard to tell.

Here is a most recent pic. Definitely losing some hair in the temple area otherwise it's strong. Crown is fine.

I would love some opinions and advice. Let me know what you guys think

I would say your hair and hair line looks fine. I mean, you know your hair so if you think it's receeding, then perhaps it has a little but it seems fine - do you have a base pic?

If I was you, I would simply monitor it. Take pics on a regular basis with good and similar lighting and see what happens. It may just be a more mature hairline but if it worsens, jump on finasteride.

No need to get on any treatment yet. Could just be a mature hairline. Make absolutely sure you're thinning/receding before getting on something as strong as finasteride.

You're still a NW1. Your hairline corners are sharp and temple point look pretty dense. So i'd say just keep an eye on it but i'm not seeing sings of thinning or recession. More pics would be helpful though.

Your hair line seems to be fully intact (NW1) but the middle of your hair line seems to be thinning out a bit. It's just a tiny bit, but it's thinning imo.

Does anyone else see the same thing as I do? If so, please say so because I might be just seeing things. Apart from that, your hair looks great.

you have a great hairline, keep an eye on it and send in some pics in 6 months time if you are seeing a difference

I can provide some more pics and have been monitoring it carefully. Crown looks fine to be honest like I said the only thing I have noticed over the years is just some temporal recession but minor.

I'll monitor it. Would it make sense to go on finasteride only if it worsens significantly? Thanks.

Tbh it's always been like this. I don't know if I will recede there but the hair is thick in the middle.

I wish there was a separate forum called "forum for NW1's with BDD" because this is getting ridiculous... Why so many damn NW1's coming here worrying about "hair loss" that is clearly in their heads? Why is there more NW1-2's on a hair loss forum than legitimate hair loss sufferers? Even on a hair loss forum we are a clear minority. Okay, if you're asking for advice, I'll give you one: Go live your life, do not worry, you do not have male pattern baldness.

SO last update I wanted to show.
These pictures look really funny but I wanted to get my hairline showing as much as possible.

I want everyone's opinion on what they think of how the hairline looks. It's clearly an M shaped... and at 23 years old I dont know if thats good or bad.

Hair looks good. Keep an eye on the corners though. If they start getting thin past the hair line then I would jump on. But you have nothing to worth about as of now.

Also even if you went bald you would look good bald dude. Tan skin good shaped head. Definitely don't need to worry.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I mean I will definitely keep an eye on it. I think if it got worse I would see the Doctor immediately to start finasteride since they say getting it early has the best results. Thanks though I appreciate it.

Yeah so brief history which also is a big reason for my concern.

Dont have any siblings. Dad is bald pretty much fully. Was receding by age 35 and lost most of his hair by age 45. Has three brothers two of which lost their hair the same age... the one brother still has solid hair so I guess he was lucky.

Mom's side is better. Brother has solid hair and he's 50 but lost it at the crown but overall not bad.
Her dad had solid hair into his 60's too and didn't suffer extreme hairloss. Their family history also has a ton of uncles and fathers who had solid hair.

Hence why I have no idea what will happen to me.

You appear to have a mature hairline. That doesn't mean you will eventually go bald, most non balding men develop your hairline. If you say it was always like that then you're not going bald, at least not right now. If you want a definitive answer, you could see a doctor, you would have needed to see one anyway if you needed a prescription.

Well that's the thing that is a little frustrating. I have raised this concern to my doctor a few times and in Canada you need a prescription for finasteride you can't just buy it. So when I asked her she pretty much tossed it aside and said I had nothing to worry about right now and that I wasn't balding.

But that is why I wanted another opinion since admittedly I have noticed a change over the years despite the change being minimal. I also wanted to see a dermatalogist but my doctor also said no and that I don't need to see one.

That small temple recession is still caused by DHT so you know for sure you aren't one of those immune to baldness. As this is a strictly aesthetic issue you should see a dermatologist or even a hair transplant surgeon (you don't need one lol, but they can asses the issue and can prescribe medication if needed) if you are really concerned. General doctors aren't exactly corned with such issues.

There is currently no need to panic but there is nothing wrong in monitoring it and going on medication if you start losing more. It's not something that happens overnight so you have plenty of time, no need to worry or rush it.

Yes I think if it were to worsen I would be the first one to admit I would like to see if there is anything I can do to improve it. I've been told by many I am OK right now so it's good to have that reassurance. I'll continue to see how it goes over the next little while and if it gets worse I will look into seeing someone other than my doctor
