Hi guys,

I've been a lurker of this forum for a while and thought it was due that I posted with my problem. So here we go. I've attached some photos so you can give me your thoughts and suggestions, I am also soon approaching 28.

(Mods if this is in the wrong section could you please move it, I tried to find the right one)

DSC03514 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03515 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03540 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03542 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03547 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03553 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]DSC03556 (Medium).JPG[/attachment:2dw8219w]

The above were taken within a day of each other. As you can see I am either balding, thinning, or both.. My hairdresser said that I have a double crown which can be found fairly low on my right side but I don't know if that is true. Another in the past said that I was thinning on top a year or so ago. You can see for yourself that I can look 'OK' if my hair is positioned correctly. I must admit it looks better short, I am due a haircut next week so I will get updated photos then. I didn’t realize actually how bad it looked until I purposely made it look bad.

I haven't used any products but I am thinking about it. I just don't want them to make the situation any worse. Can products actually result in hairloss? Silly question I know (because the loss of hair is already happening). I don't know how my mothers father was on top as I never met him, my dad though is OK for a guy in his mid 50's.

So, with that I will ask for your opinions and suggestions.

Thanks.

Do you think I should just wait to see what happens or take precautions through any particular products? I've read about Nizoral Shampoo but am concerned with the shedding.

Thanks for replying.

it does look like you maybe staring to thin in the crown
but it's very slight so it's hard to tell

nizoral normally will not induce a shed
and you need to know it's very normal to lose 100 hairs a day
i personally do not

but alot of people get extremely freaked out when they lose 25 hairs in the shower
claiming they had a shed and they did not

nizoral will not hurt your situation
it has actually been shown in studies that it can increase hair shaft diameter but 11% or so "i dont remember the actual figure"

but if it is indeed male pattern baldness
finasteride would be essential

are you thinning only in the crown or all over the top? Cant tell from the pictures.

If thinning only in the crown, propecia works best on your hairloss.

Thanks for the reply BodyDysmorphic. I'll pick some up today if I can find it in boots or tesco. I usually use either 'Aussie - Real Volume' shampoor or 'Tresemme'. They made my hair feel fuller but from looking at these recent photos these alone aren't enough. If this Nizoral could stop further thinning I would be fairly pleased. I noticed quite a lot of hair being washed away when in the shower today, I don't know if it is more than normal because I never really took notice before.

Also, if the shampoo could thicken what hair someone has left that would be a great result.

I'll upload some more photos in a moment.

Thanks

Hi Kaze,

Well from the photos I have taken today and from looking in the mirror parting my hair in different areas it looks to be thinning all over, but I don't know if I am exaggerating. I know it isn't as thick as it once was which does seriously suck :).

With propecia would I have to get that from doctors? I read you have to be prescribed it. I don't know what the doctor would say to my hair..

Here are some more photos if you guys are interested in looking.

I've tried to multiquote but couldn't find it. Sorry about the doublel post folks.

Any more comments would be appreciated.

I'll have to read up on 'finasteride' too.

lots of people report that the two main fda treatments (finasteride and min) work the best on the crown area!

thanks for the replies guys, i really do appreciate it.

my hairdresser wasn't in today so i will get it cut tomorrow. i'll also call the hospital tomorrow to see about making an appointment with a dermatologist.

i asked my mother about her father (died before i was born) and his hair. she said he had a full set of hair, much like my brother. thick (his hair is also very straight). my brother is a year older than me and isn't thinning at all. i am starting to question whether we actually are brothers!! :D.

so anyway, i will use the shampoo that i bought. not expecting miracles but since i bought it i might as well use it.

i'll update with photos tomorrow.

thanks again.

I very much agree with finfighter

go to a derm and then get confirmed for male pattern baldness
the sooner you start treatments the more likely you will be able regrow and maintain your hair

do it not and you may be kicking yourself later down the road

I don't mean to discourage you, but my male pattern baldness kicked in at around 28-29. I didn't have visible hairloss until I was 29.

My point is, you just don't know how your genetics are pre-programmed. Your hairloss may not progress at all, or progress extremely slowly.

I'd personally wait a bit longer before commiting to propecia or minoxidil. You could try the other stuff, like shampoos, etc...
