Almost 23 yo male here.

Have noticed that styling my hair doesn't go as smooth as it used to be.
Looked around on the interwebs for a while and read alot upon it but I just can't make a decission about whatever is going on.

So obviously my question is, Am I balding? I can tell I'm receding/creating a mature hairline. I dont lose a lot of hair though when showering, combing etc. I also don't have particularly bald grandparents, they've receded yes but no bald spots on the crown or anything.

Secondly, why are there shorter hair around my hairline? They're like 50% of the length of my hair behind that. It's not bothering me but I thought it might has to do with something.

Here's an album so you can look for yourself: link deleted

Thanks!

Very slightly receding. How many bald males are in your family? If not many, then keep an eye on your hairline and if it goes back noticeably in a short amount of time, then you should try some of the traditional methods.

Right now your hair looks fine though and Im sure youll get a few mean comments from jealous guys. The sides do look to be thinning out a little, but nothing too concerning right now. You look like a NW1.5 so like I said just keep an eye out for it. Nobody would ever assume you were balding at this point so dont worry as of yet.

Thanks, I know its not that bad right now and was more looking if people could see the start of something bad.

I dont care if people are mean about anything, as long as they're honest and tell the truth. Theres nothing to be jealous about tbh.

And Im not sure if there are proper bald men in my family, dont really ever see them, but from the ones I do know is that theyre not bald, but just have a pretty receded hairline.

Sounds like you would be good then. Most men, even ones who dont go bald, have their hairline move up during their life. Your hair looks pretty thick as well, so thats another plus. I think everybody has miniaturized hair to some degree on their hairline so that wouldn't be a clear indicator of baldness either. But its good that your concerned at your age, I'm about the same age as well just a little older, and if you and me start going bald we are young enough to where we could hold on to our hair if we respond well to regimens.

could just be a natural high, and mature hairline. That's typically the shape a maure hairline forms, it's angular rather then the typical U shape of male pattern baldness.

Besides being a diffuse thinner ontop of having a NW3, you'll notice the classic U shape loss which isn't a mature hairline. Ontop of that the slice between the forelock is common for those entering NW2-3 territory.

Are you here refering to what you think will likely happen to me or just as an example for the guy in the picture?

Providing you with an example of the path baldness traditionally followed.

Some individuals go the NW2A pattern where the whole hairline gradually creeps back, but in your case it's safe so say you have a mature hairline.

the shorter hairs are miniaturized hairs. This shrinkage is due to DHT and is male pattern baldness. Yes you are receeding. You can take your chances and hope it doesn't go much further or you can start finasteride to stop further loss. Your family history might be a strong indicator of which option is best for you

So you think it's smart to start using any of that witchcraft? Mature hairline typically means something everyone gets sooner or later right, with no direct result of it being male pattern baldness?

Not everyone gets a mature hairline. A mature hairline is male pattern baldness, the hair at the very front is easily the most sensitive to DHT, which for some means they will lose it. Hopefully the androgen receptor count for the rest of your head and androgen levels will not meet the threshold at which point you will start losing that hair, too. But it's a total guess
