Hi folks,
may success stories here says they had used a combination of Propecia + rogain / minoxidil.
but when i reading further info about propecia,it is said

Propecia, a hair loss drug, increases risk for prostate cancer and sexual side effects

So what my question is, Rogain/minoxidil alone will not work?

I am somewhat of a nooby myself, but from what I understand, seen, and read, it depends on the person. For most people, rogaine/minoxidil will only stall your hairloss for a few years at best. Rogaine/minoxidil doesn't tackle the actual root problem of male pattern baldness, so you will continue to bald. If you want to actually stop your male pattern baldness hairloss, you need to use propecia. If you are not comfortable with using propecia, then go ahead and use rogaine/minoxidil with nizoral shampoo. Those two without propecia should buy you at least a year or so.

I am only on propecia (or rather, a generic finasteride) myself for 2 months now, so I'll share my online research findings and limited experience:

Propecia does not increase prostate cancer risk. In fact, it lowers the cancer risk. The claim that it increases cancer risk was made by someone who didn't understand the corresponding study and has been floating around the web ever since. The study found that users of propecia have a lower incidence of prostate cancer in general, especially with low aggressiveness and good treatibility, whereas the incidence of more dangerous cancer was relatively higher than in controls. This lead some people to the interpretation that propecia fosters more dangerous forms of cancer, while the study definitely doesn't support this. In all likelihood, in reality the propecia just came too late or its effects weren't strong enough to also fight the more dangerous prostate cancer, as it did with less dangerous forms.

On the topic of sexual side effects, I am currently experiencing them (things almost dont work at all: libido much lowered, no morning wood, and even when stimulated errections are more difficult to maintain and they are not as strong). I decided to try to ride them through, as some big clinical trials by the name of PLESS found that sexual sides subside in most people after 1 year, though in some cases latest after 4 years. But they subside almost always, according to the data of these trials.

On the topic of minoxidil/rogaine alone: I was doing that for 2 years and now I added finasteride two months ago. Guess why. minoxidil/rogaine slowed hair loss down for me, but didn't halt it completely. It depends on how aggressive your hair loss is; mine definitely is. Went from NW1 at 17 to Norwood 3.5 at 23. If yours is less aggressive maybe minoxidil/rogaine alone works, but in my case it didn't.

the above is correct

minoxidil alone will not work any longer than a couple years on it's own, max. That is a good responder. Some it will only slow down their loss for maybe a year or two

From my personal experience, I had very good regrowth with minoxidil 5% by itself for the first 6 months or so, that's after going through a big 1-2 month shed. Then I stopped applying minoxidil and things went downhill, FAST, lost all the hair that I regrew with min and then some.
Moral of the story is, do NOT stop applying minoxidil, you can probably lower the frequency to maybe once every 2, 3 days to maintain your current hair, but do not stop altogether !

Frontal area, I have no hair loss on vertex
I just started taking Finasteride, I'm only 4 days into it but so far no sides as far as I can tell, I fapped a few times to "test the water" and had no problem with getting erection.
