The dose ranging studies were probably pretty conclusive since they were done for FDA approval. Basically, if you take less than 1mg I doubt it would work as well.

Balding is so slow that by the time you find out if a lower dose is working you will have experienced more hairloss IMO. Your choice, but I wouldn't risk it
