On finasteride for 1 year

I just hit my 1 year mark on finasteride, with no noticeable improvement, and potential slightly increased hairline recession. I am a nw2. I will work on getting pictures up tomorrow (after I get a haircut for apples to apples comparison to original pics)

My question is should I consider dutasteride? Everything I say say it is statistically more effective. Why wouldn't we all switch to dutasteride?

its more effective due to all types of 5ar inhibition.. and when that happens you risk getting more sides.. that is why we dont use it.. and it also never got approved for safety in hair loss treatment

It's more effective because it inhibits more 5ar2, DHT type 1 plays no/ a negligible role in hair loss.
It didn't get approved for hair loss but it was approved by the FDA for BPH more than ten years ago and it has a good safety profile. Side effects are higher than finasteride at a daily dose of 2.5mg a day but comparable to finasteride at a daily dose of 0.5mg a day.
It also has a much longer half life of 4 weeks compared to the 8 hours of finasteride, making it possible to play with the dosage to find which one suits you best : one 0.5mg pill weekly, twice a week, every day... One pill a week being a little less effective than finasteride, two pills a little more, and so on.

So is there any correlation in susceptibility to sides on finasteride vs dutasteride?

I haven't had any sides to date really to speak of on finasteride. (Buying generic at Costco, so it's legit)
