Older guy looking for some advice from the older guys

I will be 45 in a few weeks. Have had minor recession for years but it has become more aggressive recently and has started to go from a thinning at the temples to now thinning on top. It's happening very quickly and feel like I need to do something to stop it or let it go and accept. Well, I'm not ready to accept it yet. If you could share some thoughts on finasteride at my age and what I can expect in terms of maintenance or regrowth. I'd be happy to hang on to what I have.

I thought at 45 I would be ok with losing my hair, but I'm not and it's been really difficult for me deal with and feel like it's on my mind all time.
I feel awful for all the young guys on the board that are dealing with this at such a young age. I guess we're all in the same boat.

You have no choice but to go on it if you want to keep what you have, you may get some lost growth back but only a little. As far as how it effects older men I can say it will give you a small testosterone boost which you will notice. If you hair has thinned too much you can also do a hair transpant, I have had two and am on finasteride myself. There is no need to lose all your hair with what is available.

I'm nearly 37 and it still kills me to know I'm receding and I could lose my looks in a few years. You're right we are all in the same boat; whether you're 18 or 48 the pain still hurts the same. I've just started finasteride and I wonder if I've left it too late (like you I've had a slow recession and thinning over a number of years). You just don't really know until you try, but at least I'm trying to do something.

finasteride and nizoral shampoo currently. I'm going to see where I am after about 6 months and if I feel I need it I'll add Min.
I've actually only been on finasteride for just over a week. The only side I've had so far is urinating more at night which has given me a couple of sleepless nights.
