Officially Quitting All My Treatments

Time to quit everything. finasteride+minoxidil have done nothing for me after 3 years and am afraid they've made things worse. Quit minoxidil like 8 months ago with no change in hair loss. Was on duta for 3 months and hair loss continued at same pace. Don't think I respond to AR inhibitors or minoxidil whatsoever. I hear people say all the time that they have bad results on fina and duta and almost always their hair is almost the exact same. Mine has gotten unbearably bad. I was looking at pictures from 3 years ago that a family member of mine has and am absolutely shocked how horrible things have gotten. I legit had no noticeable hair loss then and am diffuse thinning with NW3 hairline now. Also none of my older brothers have any hair loss. I am so fuckn pissed and depressed how horrible my reaction has been to these drugs. I will soon post pics of my journey on this sh*t to show that some people really don't respond to AR inhibitors. Clearly DHT isn't the culprit for all of us.

Can you post before and after pictures if you don't mind?

Have you ever gotten blood tests to see if there is anything else at play (e.g., thyroid)?

just removing DHT doesn't regrow hair, even Testosterone can make you bald if you are sensitive enough. Unfortunately the only way to win the battle is usually to go on a damn near transgender regime.

Three years is certainly enough time for any treatment to reveal itself. I agree with above, get comprehensive blood tests. If checks out ok, then focus on getting body into top shape, good cardiovascular diet and increase scalp circulation with massage.

true. are you sure you have male pattern baldness? it's possible you've been fighting the wrong battle.

keep your head up bro.
Yeah male pattern baldness pattern. Started with receding hairline when I got on treatments. Derm said I was a NW2 with great density when he started me on finasteride. Horrible diffuse thinning since tho. Hairline has continued to recede as well. No actual crown bald spot tho which is surprising given how bad my hair loss has gotten.

I will later when I get home. Will start a new thread. And yeah had some tests such as thyroid. Doubt thyroid disease could cause this much hair loss tho.

Wasn't looking for regrowth, just needed maintenance. Didn't happen at all tho.

What kind of tests should I get? Also already in top physical shape. Lift 4 days a week, box 3-4 days a week. Eat super healthy. Isn't really much I can change in my physical fitness or diet except cutting out alcohol which there is no way in hell I'm doing.

So what happens with the body chemistry of people who achieve regrowth with finasteride alone?

blocking 5ar reduces DHT and increases T, also increases Estrogen depending on the level of aromatise. which why you can get some regrowth, but dramatic regrowth with just finasteride is rare.

Most people have too many expectations with finasterid.

Finasteride is not a miracle drug. It's a good drug to hold your status. Regrowth is just a bonus for some guys.

If you can hold your status with finasterid then you won everything.

What is away , is away . The only option then is a hair transplant.

But i saw people on finasteride with amazing results. Even with 0 results.

That's life.

I'd say give it a couple months and assess what your hair is gonna do now given you aren't on any treatments, because realistically if finasteride wasn't doing anything then your hairloss should be as it was for the past 3 years. I hope you figure something out bro, but st least you can't look back and wonder what if...

I'm also 11 months into finasteride and think my diffusing may have gotten worse.

This. I think some people get confused with what Finasteride can do. It's not really for regrowth. It is possible for some guys to get some regrowth with finasteride but like you said that's just a bonus. What it's primarily for is maintenance and for this purpose it's been proved to be very effective with the vast majority of finasteride users at least holding the hair they have.
Because of this I definitely think the OP should consider the possibility that it's something else other then DHT causing the hair loss and like others have said he'd have nothing to lose by getting blood tests done.

Have you considered an androgen receptor blocker like RU, or topical spironolactone?

Inb4 suicide thread of wishing he never stopped finasteride
Doubt it. Almost all my hair loss occurred while on this drug, because I caught my hair loss super early. Also took duta for 2.5 months, so don't think my DHT will be back to normal for a long while, given that the half life is 5 weeks.

My question wasn't founded in expectations, just trying to understand the factual elements behind regrowth some people obviously have achieved with finasteride.

I'm going to create a new thread with my results on finasteride. Will link it here. Have to get the photos off my old laptop first. Definitely not typical results.
