Hey, just for those who are curious. I got laser eye surgery yesterday (LASIK), and my vision is near perfect. I'm very impressed with the results, and the Doctor says my vision should only get better since there is still some swelling... I expect better then 20/20 vision when my eyes are done healing.

As far as my hair.... the propecia seems to be maintaining my hair very well.. I never notice hair falling out unless I consistantly pull on it a few times I might get one or two or none at all! I'm almost at 7 months and never had a shed. Never had any noticeable sides either. Also, I'm taking MSM to improve texture and growth, seems to be working. And the usual nizoral which has done a great job on my scalp. Sorry folks, no negative results to post thus far. =P

That's great, now if doctors could only find a way to make our hairlines perfect we would all be set. I am just glad that I have 20/15 vision so I can spend more time griping about my hair loss. :D

You know, talking about the lasik surgery reminds of something. For all those who claim there is a conspiracy in regards to them never finding a cure for hairloss because there is more money in the treatment, this 'cure' for bad vision is an indicator to me that that is false. There would be much more money made selling years and years of contact lenses, glasses, checkups, etc.. then a couple g's for a one time fix for something that you will never have to worry about again for the rest of your life. Yet here we have it, in 2004, a cure for bad vision. I'm not a big believer in the oppression theory.

Congratulations on having the courage to go through with it! I was freaking blind as a bat (almost legally blind) and had Lasik done in Jan 2001..absolutely no problems at all. The docs said that I was lucky cuz I had thick corneas and made corrections to 20/20 in one and 20/15 in the other. Took me a while to get used to not grabbing for my specs in the morning when I woke up. Don't think about it too much anymore..but when I do, I shake my head and think what a miraculous time we live in for me to be so fortunate. BTW..when I tell other "blind" people, they just cringe at the thought of surgery on their eye..guess they don't mind it too much..me I couldn't stand it any longer. Invalid...sorta freaked me out though when the laser started going and I could smell the laser burning the layers in the eye..did that happen to you...and did they warn you about it? Shiney

I've had LASIK done aswell, it's worth the money both my eyes are now 20/20. The whole procedure is over in 10 minutes. The cost nowadays for this is so much cheaper than it was 10 years ago. I think the hairloss industry will find a comparable solution and will follow much the same pattern.

yeah, definitely. I mean, for all the people that do not use propecia, or rogaine, there's a lot more that don't. A lot of people don't like the hassle, the possible side effects, etc. If a cure came along, I would imagine a lot more people would jump on that than anything. there's always going to be people with genetics for male pattern baldness, thus always a market for a cure. I believe the market for a cure would be considerably bigger than the market for treatment.

I really want to do Lasik, but Im still afraid that I might go blind. Im about 20/60 so I can somewhat function without glasses but I need them to drive.

Ive heard of peoples eyes getting infected or exploding from pressure after Lasik surgery.

Ive also heard that the procedure is much safer in Europe because they use 2 lasers and do not need to cut your eyeball open like they do in the USA version.

Any comments on these stories would help, they might be urban legangs.

Lasik

Congrats on your succesfull lasik, I would only say to those of you who are debating having Lasik done. Go to this website first

http://www.surgicaleyes.org

Once you are finished on that site you may reconsider your desire to have refractive surgery done.

This site is scare mongering, the vast majority of patients never have a problem after surgery. Doctors will spot a problem after they've done your first eye, and will not proced onto the seccond eye if there are any problems. I had a problem with night driving for about four weeks but now 2 years on my eyes are perfect.

no point in getting LASIK done now...and its a mistake if you do

theres a new procedure coming out thats non-surgical...it just remolds the shape of your cornea using enzymes...and its completely reversible on top of that...dont remember the name off hand...no nighttime vision problems

1. What does this procedure cost? Lasik that is.

2. Do you have to take it easy for a few day? Post op procedures?

You are telling all these people happy with the results it was a mistake? Whatever. BTW, you are referring to corneaplasty and the company developing it, stock symbol ISTA, has all but abandoned its development.

BTW-Lasik was the best decision I ever made. I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the results...I am no longer blind-like.
1. I got my surgery done at Lasikplus.com, in Jan 2001, I used the best laser available (at that time) and it cost me $1000 per eye.
2. Yes, they have VERY specific things you must do and not do before and after. / Yes, post op procedures include wearing protective eyewear during showers and sleeping...eyedrops...for a few days. I was able to see perfectly clear within a few days. I was able to return to work the next day but my vision was a little fuzzy (due to the procedure, fluid gets in between your cornea and the outside layer of your eye, it takes a few days for that fluid to be "squeezed' away) Shiney

1.prices can vary from clinic to clinic, but a good estimate is between $2000-£3000 for both eye's.

2.Your eye's will be sore for a day or two, and they'll give you pain killers for this. It takes about a month for the eye's to totally heal and settle down, but you'll be fine after 2 or 3 days.

It's a good procedure and in my opinion, worth the money.

dont worry about going blind with lasik, its basically impossible

the laser they use is so fine that it can carve ur initals on a human hair.

only chances of any eye damage would be an infection, and since the laser is so small open wounds heal almost instantly, and whatever fails there antibiotics cure.

Thanks for the replys, guys. I intend to have my eyes done in the next couple of years. I'm tired of using glasses. They grow legs and hide the minute I set them down. I think they're multiplying and intending to attack me when I'm sleeping.

And if I go blind (like they warned me I would, as a kid), it won't be from Lasik.

Now that I think about it, it's all coming true, just like they said!
