Ok, well here's my story. I first became aware of my hairloss when I was 21 and had a girl ask me "is your dad bald, cause your hair's thinning". As we were in a rather heated argument at the time, I thought she was just being a b**ch, and thought nothing of it. However, by the time I was 23, my hairloss was becoming quite noticeable, so I jumped on Rogaine 5% and Finasteride for about 1.5 years. These products worked well for fixing the hairloss and I regrew and thickened up pretty well. I reluctantly stopped using these treatments about 2-3 months ago, because of the side effects I was experiencing. The rogaine used to puff up my face and hands and gave me baggy eyes. I looked like a junkie and was retaining lots of water. I think the finasteride also contributed. I was also always feeling tired and fatigued, and eventually decided to drop the treatments with the opinion that my junkie look and lack of energy was doing far more damage to my image then my thinning hair.

At the time, I didn't think I was experiencing any negative sexual side effects from the finasteride and my sexlife seemed pretty good. However, I can tell you that coming off that sh*t has worked wonders! I think I just slowly got side effects and got used to them over time and reset my idea of what was normal. I had totally forgotten what I was like to wake up roaring to go every morning until the last few months, and there's no way I'd ever get back on those treatments to sacrifice this.

Anyway, in the defense of the minoxidil and finasteride, I used far more than 1ml at a time, but only once a day, so maybe following the directions to the letter would have helped. I used to use it only at night, about 2-3ml, as the puffing would subside to a more acceptable level by morning, though it would still take about a week to totally go away. I just felt I could not get adequate coverage with 1ml, as my hair would soak it all up, especially once it regrew.

Regarding the finasteride, I was using 5mg proscar tablets, and often would not divide them evenly. I would generally probably consume the whole tablet over 3-4 days, so the dose was slightly higher than recommended.

Anyways, since ceasing treatment, I have begun shedding pretty badly, and am gonna give the Tricomin and Revivogen a fair go. I had a pretty good head of hair a few months ago, so hopefully I can expect some regrowth.

I have been using Tricomin for a week, and can say that my hair hasn't felt this healthy in ages. No dandruff and no itching. The revivogen arrived today, so I have shaved my hair to about 10mm length so I can get good coverage with minimal product, and use it more regularly. I'm gonna use both products twice a day and keep you all posted I'm not sure about timing or order of application of the two, but will probably use the rev first thing in the morning, Tri a few hours later, rev early in the evening, and tri 1/2 hour before bed.

Initial photos are at:

admittedly, they are pretty crap, as I just applied the revivogen, so my hair is oily and looks thicker. It's the best I could do holding my laptop above my head and using my webcam.

I really believe that the secret with topicals is regular small doses. The dht is instigating hairloss 24 hrs a day, and we need the topicals to be combating it for the same duration. It's kinda like 15 min on a treadmill 4x a week is better than 1hr once a week. Anyway, my 2c.

OOOps! Can someone move this to the my stories forum??

Cheers.

Ok, to answer your questions, no I don't have any decent pics of when I was on the finasteride and min. I know my coverage isn't that bad, but you should have seen how much better it was just a year ago. I have diffuse thinning over the entire crown area, with no real "bald spot". I also have some temple recession, though not too bad for my age I suppose.

Anyway, after two weeks on the revivogen, and 3 weeks on the tricomin, I can definitely say that there is certainly a degree of growth stimulation occurring. Obviously, no new hairs yet, but I can say for sure that my hair is growing reeeeally fast, which can't be a bad thing. In addition, my hair feels like it is "glued to my head". I used to hate towel drying my hair, cause it felt like the tiniest agitation would work it loose, but it really feels much stronger now.

I have been using both products twice a day, changing the order and timing of application occasionally, but following no hard and fast rules. I think that the revivogen by itself would cause irritation, as on the first day I experienced some redness. However, the tricomin seems to soothe it somewhat, and I have not experienced any dryness or irritaion since.

As for systemic effects, I occasionally get a cloudy head for quite some time after application, and I think the effect is exacerbated by using the products together and increasing the absorption. Really not sure which one causes the problem, but it's not bad enough to stop me from using them, and seems to be gradually decreasing.

The tricomin dries completely, but the revivogen stays oily, and I think using the products together may actually aid the absorption of the tricomin.

Anyway, that's all for now. I've been as honest as I can. Another update in a few weeks.

We share a similar story. I went off finasteride after a 8 months due to fatigue and cloudy brain and lost all the hair it grew. I think DHT is related to energy for some people and without it they feel half alive. Anyway I'd like to keep track of your progress. Good luck.

You could be right, it would be better to use only safe topical products. 0.5 finasteride might be less damaging to energy levels. Have you explored the new topical Eucapil Fluridil?
