Off Finasteride and questions regarding alternatives

I cannot deny the sexual side effects of this drug any longer. I've been on it for about 5 months now splitting the 5mg pill into quarters and have been off for about a week.

I was getting very positive effects from the drug as well, my hair looked healthier and it seemed I was getting slight regrowth, but i'm only 19 and not being able to get a full erection after two days of no ejaculation is not worth it. Now that i'm off the drug my erections are alot stronger, my libido has shot up and I am happy to have no doubts in my sexual performance. But on the flipside my hair is starting to deteriorate again.

Revivogen seems like the best option for me now, possibly combined with topical spironolactone. I have a couple of questions regarding the two products though.

1. How expensive is revivogen and is there any cheaper alternatives? I'm a student on minimum wage...
2. Is a combination of both revivogen and spironolactone necessary or will revivogen cover all my needs?
3. I like my hair medium length and left kindof messy, is it a hassle to apply revivogen/spironolactone with longer hair?

Thanks in advance, Sam

Yes, longer hair makes it harder to apply topicals.

I would also not put too much stock in revivogen. It doesn't address the root cause of DHT like finasteride or other (experimental) topicals do.

Have you thought about trying finasteride @ .5mg a day? I had excellent results at that lower dosage. I've also head/read of people who started at 1.25mg and had sides, so they stepped it down to .5mg and didn't have a problem with sides.

Now, I'm not saying that it works for everyone, but it might be something to try for you.

Whichever way you decide, good luck in your fight!

I really want to stay away from finasteride for a while, I may go back as a last resort, but definitely want to try out some alternatives first. Thanks for your response.

Hmmm not even sure if i can access revivogen now, i'm in New Zealand and the Australian website doesn't deliver here...too tired to bother researching properly atm, i'll do it in the morning.

Just remember that it's 100 times easier to maintain the hair you have than to regrow what you've lost.

Yeah that's all I really want to do at the moment, just wanna know if spironolactone/revivogen can cover that.

Revivogen addresses the "root cause of DHT" just like finasteride does, and probably other ways, as well. The only real question is HOW WELL it works at doing that.

propecia and minoxidil and avodart are the only the only things that work. The alternative to these is a hat or wig.

isnt it easier to reduce the dosage like someone on here suggested than to just try a new product right away??

Dude I had the same problem. The sides were ok at first, and I'd have good days and bad, but over time it just kept getting worse.

I got off and both times my libido has shot up dramatically and my semen consistency went from very watery\hardly any to normal after a week or so.

I tried 0.25 mg of finpecia the second time and I had a lot better results--libido was close to normal, semen wasn't as watery, and erection problems were far less, but it still wasn't as great as being off of it.

I really wish I didn't get sides cause it did wonders for keeping my hair thick on top, and does ok on helping stabilize the hairline. I came off a month ago for the second time and I'm starting to see shedding already, but I ran out of minoxidil for a little bit so I'm doing extra of that for a while hoping to avoid any hair problems from no finasteride for a while.

I ordered some dutasteride and I am going to give that a try for a little while, some people report less side effects on it even though they had sides on finasteride. Chances are it will do the same thing to me, but I'm willing to experiment with it for the sake of my hair and science.

Haven't been on this forum in ages, guess that's a good sign :)

Just wanted to note my progress on here, it may help others to find an alternative to Finasteride.

So I started on revivogen about three weeks after I came off finasteride, at that point the itching was really getting on my nerves, but the improvement in my erections/libido definitely made up for the drawbacks. As soon as I started using revivogen I noticed the same scalp-calming effect that finasteride has. The horrible itch came to a cease, and it felt like i was back on finasteride. The next few months I went through some minor sheds, and my thinning seemed to get worse. I think this was due to completely halting the use of finasteride in substitute for revivogen. It could also be because I would go days without applying it sometimes due to relationships or laziness; I never apply it when I have girls to stay, and sometimes I just can't be fucked (drunken nights etc).

Now eight months in I can definitely say this product has helped me keep what I have, and probably some regrowth, through it's hard to tell. I don't have any pictures, but I don't scrutinize over my hair nearly as much as I used to. The less attention paid to my hair, and the absence of major side effects make this product very worthwhile for me, and I would recommend it to anyone who is in the early thinning stages of hairloss.

The only side effect perhaps worth noting is that I think it has changed the colour of my hair slightly from a dark brown to a lighter more orangey brown, but it's very subtle, and hasn't been commented on by anyone.

May as well just say you want to waste some time and money first because that is basically what will probably end up happening. I dont think I have ever seen a success story with dramatic before after pictures with anything other then the big 3 or something crazy like dutasteride, oral spironolactone, or something like that. I am not convinced any topical so far works nearly as well without systemic sides.
