Hi forum members.

My background - in my 30s now butnhave been losing hair since 20 years old. I estimate I am a NW6 with pretty severe loss as you can see.

Decided to take the plunge locally in Perth with Dr Martinick. She was knowledgeable, kind and has been doing it for 25 years. I have read some of the negative reports on forums but on my face to face consultation she seemed genuine and I am happy to have gone with her.

Am creating this as a personal photo blog of sorts but thought I would share my journey with you as it progresses.

Had a strip and asked my surgeon to go for max. She has transplanted around 4500 FUG from my donor strip And 20 body hairs from my back using FUE into the rear left crown to see the uptake. If it works I will fill the rear crown with FUE body hair transplants from my back.

The procedure took around 10 hours and there was a team of about 5-6 on the day.

It’s early days but curious as to other members thoughts.

Regards
M

Other issues - my donor density is fairly low. My follicles are in groupings of 1 or 2 so an average 1.5 hairs per follicular Unit.

Given the large area to cover I’ve set my expectations low with the aim to get a “thin but natural looking hairline”.

I look forward to watching your journey...as it will be a similar one to mine here at the end of July.

Thanks! Surely you can’t have as profound hair loss as me? I’ve been using Toppik now for almost 8 years!

@hanginginthewire it’s what I was told but im inclined to agree with you, I have a ridiculous amount of hair loss (probably a NW6.5 I reckon) - but I can’t bring myself to go bald yet - sadly my head shape does not suit the look at all....

It's pretty close. That's why I'm interested in your journey. I will be having 5000 grafts done..I figure it can be any worst than it is..I'm a Norwood 6 with out a doubt

Thought I would share a frontal hairline shot today.

Used Liposomal ATP spray days 0-3. Now washing with Dettol hand wash and gentle running water. Some scabs are starting to come off. No additional bleeding so far though

Seems like the follicles have survived... and the recipient hairs are showing some first signs of growth.

I suppose if you have low expectations anything else is a bonus.

Because of your lack of donor and extensive hairloss it's obviously going to be a bit sparse but it may look good shaved close.

I hope you have a good result.

2 weeks post op - stitches FINALLY coming out today. It’s been incredibly itchy!!!

I’m going to wait a month before posting scar shots.

Am starting to notice shedding for sure now.

Looks like the strand only with scab attached but even being prepared for the shedding the natural assumption is worrying about losing those precious follicles...

You waded into the problem with both barrels. Good for you, Mate! I'll be holding positive thoughts for you for a good outcome.

Thanks mate.

Post appointment - hairs + scabs are meant to start coming out now otherwise will cause inflammation.

I feel like thousands of hairs have come out with the scab removal but it’s all part of the process...

Now the painful wait for regrowth

Also advised to start using Bepanthen scar treatment silicone gel to minimise risk of keloid (hypertrophic scar) formation.

Given I’m dark skinned I have a 4x risk of this.

Thanks for your post, great information and pictures to help me along my journey. I'm also a NW6 and from Melbourne. Currently looking into clinics from Turkey as my budget is limited and been wanting to do this procedure for at least 2 years now. Good luck with everything and hope this transplant is a great success for you.

Why didn't you look overseas? Better quality & lower price , generally speaking anyways

Hope you get a good result however

Could have gone overseas but a few too many variables for my liking. Been happy with the care I’ve received and convenient to have an experienced surgeon here locally in Perth in case something went wrong.

This FUT scar is giving me the absolute sh*ts though - I hope the redness settles soon. Worst thing is shock loss combined by the redness of the scar around the scar line. Thankfully I don’t think there will be keloid scarring but this thing isn’t going to be “concealed” by my own hair for a while...

I will post 2/3/4 week scar photos next week.

Did you end up going o/s btw? How was ur experience? I would potentially if body FUE turns out to be expensive here in Aus for filling up the crown

I see,

Yeah I went to Turkey. 3 flights, travel was the only downside. Staying here to get for me was not an option

Australia & New Zealand probably have the worst value for money when it comes to hair transplants in my opinion, you pay American / Western European prices but the surgeons have no where near the experience & expertise of those top surgeons.

Agreed you got a great price but what about After care? What if something goes wrong?

Im seeing my surgeon every two weeks early during the scar healing process. If I have an issue I can contact her via mobile if necessary.

What if there was an issue - would you just fly back to Turkey to sort it out? That just doesn’t work for me and probably for a fair few members on the forum.

Btw your hair looked great even pre op you lucky bastard! I would kill for Hair that good (your pre op state)

did you even need the work done hahaha - humour me and post your latest results here / I am jelly and could use the motivation while going through the ugly duckling phase

Scar photos at 2,3 and 4 weeks from the same (right) side.

Can clearly see the shock loss post procedure.

Still very red, and a couple of areas that might require steroid injections to reduce risk of keloid formation.

Positives at this stage are that at least there are hairs growing through and around the scar area supporting the use of trichophytic closure.
