So.. I'm 19 years old 20 soon and.. I don't know where to start, I've been noticing the split in my hair getting bigger lately (And I'm not honestly sure if it was already this big and that i'm noticing it now)

I've got fairly long hair roughly around shoulder length and I've been growing for the past 4-5 years, cut off 5-6 inches 5 months ago, and I've also had a terrible case of dandruff since I was a child.

Been tackling social anxiety and depression for awhile now and noticing this just gets me even more paranoid, any input/advice would deeply be appreciated.

This will need a second assessment by others on the boards, but I would say you are thinning (not balding yet). The good news is you may have caught it early.

You are definitely showing signs of diffuse thinning. This may be the beginning of male pattern baldness, or it might just be some other form of temporary hair loss. I would get it checked by a dermatologist.

Just to clarify, thinning is generally a characteristic of balding.

Bump*

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any other tips or so for me to go with?

Also, lately i've been feeling a tingling around that area is that normal or is it just my brain playing on me?

Looks good to me, many people have varying densities of hair. But the biggest indicator that something is changing in your hair is you. You see yourself everyday, so you are the most likely to notice a change. Absolute BEST thing to do is see a COSMETIC dermatologist or hair transplant specialist (might not be free). I say this because seeing regular Dermatologist can be a mistake, they are often disinterested in hairloss and sometimes not very educated on it. A Cosmetic derm will be much more sympathetic and will hopefully be able to diagnose it. All this from personal experience.

Best of luck

Whatever you do, don't go to any hair loss club/specialists. They're all scam artists and salesmen.

Thanks alot for taking the time to respond to me, After noticing that gap on my head i've been kind of looking at other people's on the subway and stuff just to see if they have the same thing there, some do and some don't, I think its just normal but I know for a fact that my hair is atleast thinning.

I mostly think is because for the past few months (3-4) i tend to tie my hair in a tight bun after the shower, until I sleep, that way in the morning it feels all nice and wavy. And apparently tight buns and stuff can cause your hair to fall out, So i will completely stop doing that from now onwards

Secondly, I'm going to make the switch to sulfate free shampoos, I started using aveeno's dandruff control shampoos lately and I can definately see some reduction on the amount of flakes i have to wiggle out of my hair every now and then, If anyone has a good recommendation on a shampoo that treats dandruff and is meant for hairloss that is sulfate free please let me know :p

Thanks

Hmm I don't know man, I never see a lot (if any) people with traction alopecia on this forum... It seems like traction alopecia usually forms a specific pattern around the hairline, because these are usually the hairs that have to endure the most pressure with ponytails/buns.

I personally think you're most likely not suffering from traction alopecia. But I also think your hair is not that thin. You might be in the early stages of thinning, but it's hard to tell with these pictures. Go to a hair specialist and get a trichogram made, that will give some insights regarding your situation.

Once the semester ends I'll see who to go too to get a thorough scalp diagnosis, however I honestly feel it is just mainly due to the tight bun's because I could always feel hair being tugged hard around that part of my head, even if it isn't it's still in the early stages if it's anything at all and I plan to get on whatever it takes to make sure I keep my hair.

You're in the exact same situation as me. I'm the same age and also want to start treatment but don't know where to start. that kind of lighting will make your hair look worse than it actually is, do you notice a lot of hair falling out?

Yeah I kinda got that idea about it making look worse than it actually is, Thing is that i have fairly long hair (Below shoulder length) so the hair that does fall out naturally is quite obvious, but i haven't seen a difference between now or the past 2-3 years to be frank, Secondly since I have long hair its harder to see the actual "bald" spots if there are any. I strongly think this is linked to my dandruff issue and the fact that I used to tie my hair in a tight bun, But nothing is certain until I see a specialist. I'm considering starting of with a hair loss medical shampoo that contains no sulfate and see from there how it goes, Suggest you have a look into it as well.

So.. I'm pretty depressed at the moment, I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary in terms of my hair falling out infact I feel like i'm seeing less hair in the shower than I normally would (Could be my brain playing on me), But I constantly get the tingling feeling on my scalp when I lie down to go back to bed I've been taking several pictures over the past few days so that I could post them here and get some further inputs on it, at this point im just willing to shave it all off and say f*ck it, I'm tied down financially and cannot afford to go see a dermatologist until January.

I'll just add in abit of extra information that I feel might be relevant

Had undergone a surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed 2 weeks ago (I heard somewhere that general anesthesia could cause temp. hairloss)

Family History

Grandfather on Mothers side NW3 by age 50
Grandfather on Fathers side completely bald (not sure when he went bald)
Dad is 58 still has a full head of hair
Uncle on mothers side NW3 by age 25
Uncle on dad's side had a full set of hair until he passed.

I don't use any thing on my hair that could remotely damage it i.e hair dryers, straighteners etc.

Here are a few pictures taken over the past few days, some with my hair how i normally wear it, some with wet hair and some with hair pulled back.
