non-response, negative results w/ Propecia

Ive been using Propecia for 3.5 months now. I now that it is too early to judge whether or not it is working. Anyways, I have been shedding a lot for the last month and a half. I have been losing hair in areas (crown, middle of head) that i didnt have problems with before propecia. I can't believe how bad my hairline and has become. I have read on other forums about people with negative results. One guy on hairlosshelp forums wrote this:
Well, I've been on finasteride(fincar) for over 2 and a half years now and I'm finally throwing in the towel. If you search the boards, you can see my posts here from two years ago where I repeatedly complained that I thought finasteride was somehow making my frontal recession worse. After over two years on the stuff, I'm sorry to say that I was RIGHT I've lost more hair in the last two years than I had lost in the previous 9.

Even though the finasteride was eating through my hair like Star Jones through a rib buffet, I kept using it, hoping that the loss would eventually plateau and I could "save what I've got". That never happened. My hairline is a mess now with horrible temple recession.

I'm the typical finasteride bad responder: increased sex drive and oily skin. However, strangely I did have a decrease in body hair and had some gyno (uggggh, time to get a mansiere). I also think that the finas has made me moody. I've been depressed more in the last two years than I can ever remember being. Nothing serious, I'm not out looking for open high-rise windows or trying on rope neckties or anything. I just feel kind of "down" most of the time.

Soooo... after 2 years and 8 months-- that's it for me and finasteride.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Anyone found an effective regimen that doesn't include finasteride?

How can i tell if it is making things worse? I am experienceing oily skin, increased sex drive, feeling down, etc....Im just nervous because another guy had similar results and said that he wished he had quit propecia after 4 months. This is BullSh*t. Please post your thoughts

Using finasteride CAN NOT make you lose your hair line worse. It is impossible, except if you have an alergic reaction to finasteride and you breakout in some crazy rash on your scapl and the area becomes inflamed and your hair falls out that way.

Check with your dermatologist, it is not possibe for finasteride to make your hair loss increase.

Are you so sure about this? I sometimes wonder. I have been on Propecia for 6 months and my hairline has gone to crap. I'm sticking with it because of the fact everyone tells me to wait at least a year. That said, my hairline has hit rock bottom and I sometimes wonder if it's Propecia. I also added Nizoral 6 months ago. Could it be that? Who knows. I guess there's no right answer. I'll just stick with it.

If your hair's gone to sh*t while on finasteride, it could just be coincidence. LIke the people who can't get it up @ a party cuz they're plastered, and all of a sudden they're like "damn finasteride!"

If your hair has gone to sh*t on finasteride, I think it's probably a lot more reasonable to blame the actual balding process than the drug.

Maybe you're just not responding to it, for whatever reason.

At the same time, I doubt it's actually making things WORSE than they would be without finasteride. Just not necessarilly better.[/b]

It sounds like an extended shed to me, based on what others have said about shedding on finasteride. You could always add minoxidil and Nizoral to your regimen.

I guess its just a shed or coincidence. it does seem illogical that it would make things worse, but it seems to have gotten worse SO fast (3 months). But i guess i have to continue. I actually havent taken a pill in two days cause i was nervous. By the way i am on nizoral, ive been off rogaine for about two weeks and i was just using it on hairline and temples. Looks as though im going to have to apply it all over now.

You don't "have" to do anything. If you are nervous about taking the pills I'm guessing you will probably end up losing all of your hair.

condescending what are your reasons for thinking that by not taking propecia he'll lose all his hair?
