non greasy liquid (just an idea...)

Ok, this is just an idea, maybe dumb, but I'll say it anyway :)

I've never tried Rogaine Liquid cause I've heard it leaves the scalp greasy and itching. I'm using Rogaine foam, but still I don't completely like it - it starts dissolving immediately and I feel like most of the foam ends up on hair not on the scalp. Also when it dries, it makes my hair stiff and kinda stuck together, so hard to comb...

I remember once using a bottle of some natural (with Nettle extract) hairloss lotion, and it was really thin liquid (alcohol based), something like aftershave. And it was so easy to apply - you just pour it on your head and it immediately runs down to your scalp, and dries as quickly as foam (as it is alcohol based).

So it came to me - why can't the Rogaine be in such form?
Just wondering, would it be possible to make a DIY minoxidil solution? Could the minoxidil tablets be ground and dissolved in alcohol, and then used as topical solution? I think it might also be cheaper..

What are your thoughts, or am I completely out of my mind?

1) you could make your own minoxidil solution if you could buy powdered minoxidil.

2) Rogain Liquid IS minoxidil dissolved in alcohol. They use a vehicle (for 5%) that is 50% propylene glycol, 30% ethanol, 20% water.

In the case of liquid rogain, the PPG is what makes it greasy. The problem is if you remove the PPG the minoxidil will not be able to penetrade your scalp as easy. The alcohol will evaporate before all of it has a chance to penetrate.

Interesting... Then, how Rogaine foam is effective without PPG?

Also, can't the minoxidil powder be made by grinding the minoxidil tablets?
