Nizoral v. Nizoral 2

Big difference? Anyone not see great benefits using Nizoral, but see some good stuff (less hair loss/better feeling scalp) by using Nizoral 2?

Also, how long should you leave Nizoral (regular) in your hair?

There's not really too much of a difference according to studies and personal experience. I alternate with both of them, Nizoral 1% one day and 2% the next. Leaving it in about 3-5 minutes should be enough...you could leave it in longer if you wish but then you risk scalp irritation and dryness.

Well, scalp dryness and irritation are the two things I want to avoid, or help get rid of. If that's my goal, how long should I be leaving it in? Still 3-5 minutes?

Yes 3-5 mins and DON'T use it on consecutive days. 2-3 times a week is good enough. I got pretty bad headaches and dryness when I used nizoral 1% on consecutive days.

Yes if you have serious issues with scalp irritation/dandruff, or an unhealthy scalp etc, then sometimes 2% is necessary, however 1% is plenty 80%+ of the time. Having said that, I purchase the 2% on ebay because I think it is helpful for my personal situation. No matter what you decide, leave on for a good 5 min before rinsing which is easy to forget when you take 3 minute showers like myself anyway. I'm in and out of there and its easy to not leave on the best alloted time of 5 minutes which in my opinion can make a big difference in its beneficial effects.

I agree, never heard of the headaches from nizoral. However, dryness, if that is a problem (its never been for me, in fact I like the way it makes my hair look) you can use a moisurizing conditioner. So don't consider that a hinderance when deciding whether to use it.

Wow!! I've used Nizoral before, but never leaving it my hair for several minutes (because the directions never told me to do that).

WOW! My scalp feels great today, and my hair looks waaay better. It's a lot less greasy, and has more volume. I ended up using it again this morning, but only left it in for 3 minutes (I left it in for 5 last night). I also used Nioxin conditioner. My hair looks and feels great. We'll see how it looks at the end of the night tonight, and tomorrow I'll use my normal shampoo.

I wish I had known to leave it in for long periods of time, I think I may have saved myself a lot of irritation, literally, over the past two months.

What's a good conditioner to use along with Nizoral?

Question: Last night I left it in for an extended period of time for the first time, and when I got out of the shower, and dried my hair a little, it was the first time it looked like I had dandruff. There were little flakes all over the place, but my scalp felt great. Thoughts? Is that normal?

If by "extended" you mean longer than 5minutes, then you probably left it on too long and the flakes aren't normal.

I used it every day for a few months. It thickened my hair nicely. I've been on finasteride 4 years too. No headaches.

I used it two days in a row and my scalp felt even better. I'm sure once you've used it for awhile you don't need to use it as much, at least that's what I've read.

Actually, it's been a while since experiencing my headache from nizoral. What happened was I used nizoral twice in the same day. I thought washing my hair before getting a haircut would result in a nice looking haircut, but my hair looked like crap after I got the hair cut. So, I decided to wash it again with nizoral. I also think I did get a headache from using it on consecutive days. Can't be sure, it was too long ago. I don't use nizoral much anymore tho, just whenever I feel like it. Doesn't seem to do anything to my hair except clean it anyway.

Let's also note that just because one person experiences a side effect of a product doesn't mean everyone will. I usually don't experience side effects to anything. If anything it's minor.

use whatever works best for u....everyone has different hair types so what works for someone might now work for you.

I use a paul mitchell conditioner

MB has brought to my attention that the pepperment oil and other oils in tricomin and AC conditioners inhibit 5ar. Not sure how strongly though. If you are going to use conditioner anyway, you should use those ones. The AC one will make your scalp feel cold.

If so, are you referring to the Revitalize line in American Crew? Also, if all the foregoing is correct, can I buy the AC line at a beauty supply store?

Also, can I get Tricomin at beauty supply stores, or is that strictly order-online?
