What is preferred? Does it really matter? Would it be better to use ketoconazole in a custom cream/shampoo?

2% or gtfo

Lol.. I've been using the 1% for about a year now.. I don't have a prescription for the 2%, but I can find it on eBay out of Australia for a decent price. Of course, I would have mild worries about it being legit or not :/

Use a 1% Ketoconazole shampoo, it's much easier on the hair and scalp considering that the compound itself is rather harsh, it's used to kill fungus. I've tried 2% before and it fried my hair, but if it works for you then go for it.

I recommend using either the following three 1% Ketoconazole shampoos:

+ Lipogaine Big 3 Shampoo
+Regenepure DR
+Revita

All are specifically designed for both men and women suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia. They've also got goodies in them which help lower inflammation while keeping your hair and scalp moist. It certainly never hurts to give a fancy Ketonazole shampoo a try. :)

Use 2% !! I use it and it leaves my hair looking THICK.

PS: I obtained an Rx for it. Ask your dermatologist

I may just buy some online instead of getting a script if I decide to try it. Less hassle for me.

Out of the three mentioned, which one is your favorite?

First, I've never actually tried Revita, so I can't say how it's like but have read is very decent. Lipogaine's shampoo adds volume to hair but is slightly drying considering it's not made for everyday use, a maximum amount of 2-3 times per week. Regenpure DR on the other hand is designed for everyday use and has aloe vera as its base ingredient which is extremely soothing to the scalp. The only downfall with Regenepure DR though is it's only for therapeutic purposes and not designed for any cosmetic purposes, so it's best to use a volumizing shampoo and/or conditionor afterwards since it may leave your hair thinner looking.

I may make the decision which one is my favorite once I try Revita. It's all preference truly.

i have 2% prescription cost me next to nothing at drug store.
I use that on occasion at least 1x a week.
I use 1% regenepure DR 2-3x a week because i love the way my hair comes when i use this shampoo. Also its much easier on my hair color than the 2%.

Have you tried the regenepure nt for off days? Does it also make ur hair come out nice ?
Because my front is becoming quite diffuse I must use a volunizer shampoo otherwise it looks lifeless and flat.

For seborrheic dermatitis 2% has been shown to be more effective.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3100109/

Importantly, ketoconazole 2% shampoo, available by prescription in the United States, has been shown to be more effective than ketoconazole 1% shampoo (P<0.001), available over the counter in the United States, more effective than selenium sulfide 2.5% shampoo (P=0.0026) for SD, and better tolerated than selenium sulfide 2.5% shampoo.

With such a good safety profile why not use 2%, if it's too harsh move to 1%.

I have the NT--i used it once with the conditioner--i was not really impressed but I will try again a few times and let you know.

I am mostly using the DR and the prescription.
I also use Kerstasse Ban 'Densite' shampoo and their 'Voluminfique' Shampoo. I like those two because most shampoos leave my hair kind of 'flat' which probably has to do with the hair loss..I used to be able to use anything and not have 'flat' hair.
My dermatologist gave me a list for good drug store shampoos when I run out i am going to try those.

But honestly nothing is giving me the body like the DR.
I do have to condition the back of my hair afterwards, but I don't put conditioner on top anymore.

I use OGX's thick and full biotin and collagen conditioner. This stuff is the sh*t for volumizing

It's the only thing product I've ever used that actually literally appears to make the hair shafts thicker and the hair look much more dense. I'm noticing they only seem to sell it in bulk on amazon, but if you just want to try it it's an inexpensive product you can roll up and just grab off the shelf at walmart or wherever. I tried higher end stuff recently and it didn't do sh*t compared with the ogx conditioner...lost the dense look ogx gives me within several days of switching

I believe conditioner is way more important than shampoo for impacting the appearance of your hair, since unlike shampoo it's meant to be left in and absorbed for a few minutes. On the days I'm not using nizoral the only other shampoo I use is baby shampoo

I actually remember very well the OGX conditioner you mentioned and was thinking of buying it. The thing is I use some hair fibers just about every day that I go out so at the end of the day I shampoo my hair then use minoxidil. Could I just use the conditioner daily instead of a shampoo for most days ?
Also, have you tried the OGX volumizing shampoo or just the conditioner?

The front of my hair does better with no conditioner...I put some styling products to it on ends before i blow dry but if i put conditioner in the shower it gets to soft and weighs it down...i do have a conditioner/gel that gives it a ton of body BUT it also is too hard on my hair to use regularly because its not really a conditioner (although they call it a conditioner) so it builds up. I do use this once in a while.
For my back and sides i need to have conditioner or i cannot get a comb through it lol. I use Kestasse masque creme chronologist i think and i just use like a penny size on my back of head and ends. I stay away from my front hair.

I will give that conditioner a try though it looks good.

Can't you just wash your hair with shampoo, condition for a few minutes, then still apply minoxidil after your shower? That's what I do. I'm a bit confused what the issue would be...? (I don't use hair fibers though)

I haven't tried the ogx shampoo, just the conditioner
