Hello everything. I'm a new poster here and been reading through pages and pages of files and this site has been a great help for me. One problem is that I see a lot of arguing, but I guess since different treatments work for different people, that is expected.

Well, I currently have a full head of hair to the normal person's eyes. However, I personally know that I am thinning (my center part has widened and my hairline has thinned a bit). I have very long hair, so I think that helps in people not noticing anything as well.

My current treatments are as follows:

Hairmax Lasercomb (since Feb 4)
Saw Palmetto (320 MG) once daily since April 1.
One Source multivitamen for Men (with extra SP and Green Tea) once daily.
One cup of Green Tea since July 1

Today, I went to Walmart and purchased Nizoral 1%. My question is, will this help me? I read so much about 2%, but what about the OTC kind. Does it come even close to helping as well as the prescription strength?

Please, someone tell me and also, any ideas of what I can add to keep my long, rock and roll hair looking good? Thanks.

Actually the 1% works almost just as good as the 2%. What you could do is get a good salicylic acid based shampoo like Dermarest( it is OTC) which has 3% salicylic acid as the active ingredient. There are other shampoos available too that have that in it as the active ingredient. Put that on you scalp like any other shampoo and let it soak in a few minutes, then run the nizoral 1% in and let that set in for about 5 minutes. Now I have to tell ya that nizoral has the tendancy to make the hair dry so you could use a good hair conditioner afterwards. Another thing to do is get some emu oil and run a little on you scalp with the nizoral on and lather it through. That too could help it retain moisture and keep it from drying out.
If you want to purchase 2% nizoral you can get it from http://www.minoxidil.com from Richard Lee. You have to have an online consultation with him to purchase his topicals. His nizoral formula is called Regrowth shampoo and it is a combination of 3% salicylic acid and nizoral 2%. There are other sources to get 2% nizoral online as well.
And yes...............Nizoral can help you, even the 1% can. They have studies on it. :)

Jonnybb, everthing you are currently using (except possibly for the lazercomb) will do very little to halt or slow your hairloss.

Nizoral 1% is said to be nearly as good as 2%, it's mild anti-androgen properties may be of some help to you.

Finasteride (Proscar/Propecia) will slow or halt the underlying balding process.

There is a study that showed essentially the same benefit after taking the 1% that was obtained for the 2%. Since 1% is easier to get in the US that is what I use.

If you reach the point where you want to take other proven therapies look into finasteride oral, minoxidil and some of the other treatments talked about on these boards, as TynanW said.
