Nizoral and/or T/Gel

I've noticed my scalp has been really dry lately, so I got serious about taking care of it in the shampoo department.
I have used Nizoral three times already and each time I have had a funky itch all over my scalp after my hair has dried.
I remember about 3 years ago I first started Propecia and was using T/Gel and dont remember ever getting that same itch. I had fantastic results with the two in the begining. Now that I'm shedding again, I hear everyone talking about Nizoral but not that much about T/Gel.
Should I drop the Nizoral and go back to T/Gel or is there something special in Nirozal that I may have overlooked in my research?

read the Why you better be using Nizoral thread above.

your scalp can take a little time to adjust to Nizoral or T/Gel as much as minoxidil.

My advice: if the day has a 'T' in it use T/Gel, if the day has a 'N' in it use Nizoral

that's 3 x a week each with a day off, although you might want to swap the weekend around for an even distribution

I've read gobs of information about Nizoral and T-Gel and I'm going with T-Gel instead. I know everyone swears by Nizoral but I don't care. I tried it twice and that crap dries out my hair and scalp too much. And I swear, though few will believe me, that I've never lost as many hairs as I did after I used Nizoral. If T-Gel was good enough for the Propecia trials then it's good enough for me. Maybe Nizoral does have the added benefit of possible regrowth but I think it's too minimal to brag about.

By the way, why'd you stop the propecia/t-gel regimen?

I'm gonna have to agree with Helpmefindmyhair here.

I swear to you guys: I've been on nizoral for over two months, and this sh*t dries out my hair, and turns my scalp into a dry, FLAKY mess.

Should I wait this out? It's already been quite a while...

If not, I'm ordering some T/Gel as soon as possible.

I only stopped using T/Gel because I ran out of it and had no idea it had anything to do with stopping my hairloss. I assumed that merely popping the pill once a day was sufficient. That thinking went on for about 2.5 years until I found hairlosstalk.com.

Did you guys also suffer from minute scalp "pimples" too? I seem to get three or for of them around my head after using Nizoral.

If your having dry scalp...try a good conditioner or try using a more mild shampoo on your off days....also try to get a non detergent based shampoo even though they clean your scalp well and lather even better they often cause drying which will worsen your condition.

If that doesnt work and youve tried every thing from tea tree oil, coal tar, to aloe then id say shave your head and not worry about it.

Of course Nizoral alone will make your hair dry (duh), that's why you need to use an extra-rich conditioner.

I think Bryan has a study to show regular Nizoral use has a growth stimulating effect similar to Minoxidil 2%.

Okay, okay. Any recommendations for an 'extra-rich' conditioner? Should I use that every day? Only on Nizoral off-days?

In my opinion conditioner should be used every day if you have dry hair. By far the best conditioner that I've ever used is
Biolage Conditioning Balm.
My next favorite is Nioxin Scalp Therapy.

using cheap shampoos like prell or suave dried my hair out horribly. When I switched to the better stuff (nexus, biolage, Nioxin) my hair health improved dramatically.

I always use a conditioner after nizoral too.

Dunno about Suave shampoos, but some of their conditioners work great. Try Suave Perfomance Series 2-Minute Recovery Deep Conditioner or Suave Professionals Awapuhi Conditioner.

Love me some T/GEL.....Nizoral dries out my hair too much. Plus T/GEL conditioner is a wonderful addition as it has 2% Salicylic Acid.

INDICATIONS: Controls the symptoms of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.

Neutrogena® Therapeutic T/Gel® Conditioner is uniquely formulated to control itchy, flaky scalp and condition your hair beautifully. It controls the scalp itching and flaking symptomatic of chronic scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and even common dandruff. It helps maintain the healthy-looking scalp left by T/Gel Shampoo. With a fresh clean scent and an extra conditioning formula, T/Gel Conditioner is a perfect last step to any hair care regimen. Its gentle medication gives you the extra control you want, plus it leaves your hair shiny, manageable and full of body.

You can get it at Walgreens, Eckards, CVS, Albertsons, Tom Thumb....etc.

I wish nizoral was $5 dollars a bottle. I spend more on that sh*t than I do finpecia.

It used to dry out my hair after i used it. Made my scalp kind of irritated untill I used a conditioner everyday.

Yeah but look at how much you get in a nizoral bottle. Per oz they are pretty much the same cost. I imagine you are using too much Nizoral. It doesn't take that much to do the trick. Most guys here can stretch out a bottle of nizoral for 2 or 3 months.

T/GEL condioner doesn't foam worth a damn so you end up using 1/10 of a bottle per use.

Are the conditioners u recommend "healthy" for your hair? Or they contain bad chemicals?
