Nizoral activated major shedding....

Major shedding in the front/temple area had started within my first use of Nizoral 1% shampoo. I have used it once every 3 days and for 3~4 times but stopped because i was frightened. During wash there is this burning sensation on my scalp. I think I had damaged my scalp when I bleached my hair couple months back.

One morning, I had groom my hair with a brush and about 20 or so hair fell during that trip. I didn't even wash my hair yet, if i went and wash my hair I get about 20-30 hair falling off.

As you see, Im quite paranoid right now and worried/depressed almost every morning and whenever I think about it. What do you guys suggest? Would a 100% natural shampoo do the trick? Do you think a low-carb diet and lack of exercise would be a partial problem? Do you know of any physicians that are located in the Los Angeles area?

THANK YOU!

Stress is a major factor when it comes to hair loss, I believe it was what actually started my hair loss and even accelerated it. There is no point just sitting there and worrying over your hair loss, it will only make things worser. Do some research and get on a SOLID regimen ASAP, as this will make you feel confident and you wont stress as much, just think of hair growing!!!!

Wait until your scalp heals and then try Nizoral again for at least 3 months (This is in my opinion, unless you believe the shampoo makes your scalp feel like crap each time) and see if there is a difference, Nizoral is quite a harsh shampoo I agree but for me, after I shampoo it leaves my scalp feeling great!

Maybe you should try NANO shampoo, you can get this from Doctor Proctors website (Apprently it can help slow hair loss, maybe regrow.)
Although we all agree on here NANO is a bit overpriced.. But its upto you.

TSAL/TGEL are other shampoo options, they are just like Nizoral but not as harsh, they can be used on a daily basis I believe(Rotate them).

Exercise is always a good thing in general and you should keep healthy in your battle with hair loss. If you believe your hair loss might be health related, see a doctor ASAP to see if you have any deficiency/thyroid problems.

I dont know about any LA physicians as im from the UK, im sure somebody else can help on that!

Hope this helps, take care!

Possibly either an allergic reaction, or you are finally SEEING shedding. male pattern baldness has a curious way of only showing itself when you are starting your treatments.

Also, a low carb diet isn't good for ANYTHING. Get off of it before you screw yourself up. You are essentially removing your body's fuel when you eliminate carbs from your diet. If you are active and on a low carb diet, then your body needs to get it's fuel from fat deposits... and once those run out... it starts to digest itself.

There's a better way to lose weight. Eat healthy, and exercise.

But that's just not very chic now is it?

Thanks guys for the advice.

For the low-carb diet, it worked quite well for me, lost 5 pounds already. I ate ALOT of carb back when I am overweight 190lb, 5"8'. Im about 185 right now. For the record, hair lost started before this diet, it has become agreesive after my first use of nizoral.

Does anyone know what is the average number of hair in a day that falls out during the age of 20~25 male? What is considered shedding?

I woke up this morning, shook my head around in the bathroom, around 13 hair I counted fell on the floor just like that. I didn't have time to wash my head so went straight to work, i found some hair falling here and there, don't know if its mine or not and started to get paranoid and my head and body feels itchy. I went home to shower during lunch and felt better even more hair felt out....

If someone can suggest a physician near Los Angeles/California area, I would really appreciate it!

Yes I did, thanks for that. Im just trying to provide more information regarding my situation. Low-carb is not healthy I already knew (its against how our body work right?), but Im depressed and having tons of problems in life lately.....relationship, business, moving.....its all so overwhelming that Im just curious about the diet and tried it out. I'll try to be more optimistic and eat healthy with exercise.

Should I seek a physician first or try propecia-finasteride 1mg since I fit propecia's target symptoms? Have you guys seeked a physician before the regime? Or all research/information on this site guide you through it?

If i were to seek a physician, will they be able to tell me exactly if my hair loss is due to DHT or just that my scalpe is damaged or something else? I mean, will they give me a test to determine the exact biology change in my system? Like a blood test to find out more info.

If you are going to take a medicine that alters how your body works, you'd damn well better go see a physician to make sure your body can handle the stress. 9 times out of 10 the doctor doesn't have a clue what he's talking about with the drug though... but you should always see one first before taking anything prescription. Just to rule any possible problems first.

Sting,

low carbing is a great way to lose weight, normalize blood sugar, reduce food cravings, and burn fat while sparing muscle.

Granted, the best diet for long term health once a weight goal is reached is a 40/40/20 diet but saying that eliminating carbs causes your body to "digest itself" is completely untrue. Hundreds of scientific studies show the benefits of low-carbing. Why do you think the US has the highest rate of type 2 diabetes in the world? High glycemic foods!

Sting is pretty smart but sometimes he gets carried away and talks out of his ***, dont mind him :)

I agree and in fact, it is quite possible to eat a very very health low carb diet, adding veggies and certain fruits to the mix.

It is a very superior form of nutrition in my opinion.

Study up!!!

Dwings,

With all due respect ( and I DO respect your situation, because we all freaked out at first, and some of us are STILL freaking out), you have to edumecate yourself, bro!!! You made a GREAT first step by finding this site. But first, read the intro thread, something like READ THIS FIRST, on this website. It gives a good overview. Second, CALM DOWN. Third, look up other sites by doing google or yahoo searches for terms, such as "mens hair loss". Man, I spent a good 30 hours reading all the sites out there, and I still find at least 2 more a day. Eventually, they begin to repeat themselves.

Also, your situation might not be that bad right now. There are always guys who have it worse. But if you have Male Pattern Baldness on either side of your family, just take the recommended "medicines": Propecia (finasteride), nizoral or TGel, and Minoxidil.

Look at my posts on the Propecia thread. I feel for ya because I believe I triggered a lot of my hairloss (which I think was a sudden onset) due to the same conditions you are facing- depression, change of lifestyle/life, and diet/malnutrition.

Study, and you'll get a better handle on it. Nice to know that there are treatments out there. I, for one, cannot tolerate folligen, though most guys love it. Maybe nizoral is the same for you, but give it another try like the others recommended.

Later, and good luck.

1. 100% all natural shampoo doesn't mean you won't have a reaction to it. Natural is one of the most abused words in marketing today.

2. Just because someone has something to sell, doesn't mean they're going to give you bad advice. Im a living example of that.

3. The best advice for you is to use basic logic. Nizoral caused a wee bit of shedding when I used it for the first time in a very long time recently. Go see any doctor you want, preferrably a dermatologist, and they will tell you if you have damaged your scalp. If the answer is "No" then believe them and leave it at that.

Nizoral does burn and tingle when you use it for the first time, sometimes. ESPECIALLY if you have been scratching your head. So relax. Unless you flared up with extreme pain and severe burning, you will be fine. If you did have those things then it was possibly an allergic reaction. Or your skin is just sensitive to it.

Again the solution? Common sense. Basic Logic. If you have itching and need to control it, try diluting the Nizoral and that should help. If you're experiencing male pattern baldness - common sense, basic logic. Go see a doctor and get a prescription for propecia 1mg. If you're happy to keep what you have today hair-wise, that should make you happy in the future.

You need to work on your freaking out with the shedding issue though because you are not going to make it on propecia if you're that afraid of it. Propecia can cause shedding too. You are the only one who can help yourself in this situation.

Use the intelligence you have, and basic good judgment, and you will make it through this really insignificant concern with flying colors.

By the way, here is the "intro thread" elquapo mentioned with the FAQ Doctor on it. Please read this page from beginning to end. When you are finished, you will be more intelligent on hair loss than some guys who post here regularly :freaked: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/faq/

If you want to really educate yourself, read the clinical data studies on Propecia, Nizoral, Minoxidil, Spironolactone, and other important treatments here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/resourcelibrary

Thank you for educating me HairlossTalk. I've already read the intro on this site couple of times, Im just anxious to dissolve this problem immediate by seeing a doctor who is far more experienced than me. This way I can also get a prescription of the famous Propecia. I wanted to do what I possibily can and just leave the rest to nature so I don't need to worry about it anymore.

I shouldn't have worried, there are far more people in worse condition than losing their hair. Im going through a divorce with my first wife/gf, very lonely and afraid I won't find anyone anymore. So I needed all the strands of hair I can get to grab attention. But, I really should focus on my inner self instead of appearance. :?

Can I go ahead and try propecia first without consulting a physician? I mean will it get worse if its not for me? My grandpa has male pattern baldness, my dad cuts his hair short so I don't know if he has it. and I never saw my mom before. If I could try propecia without consulting, I really would do that because Im on a budget this month. From your past experience, do you recommend going to see a physician first? Did you? Or are all the information the doctor will tell you are all freely available online?

Again, Thanks.

The same thing happened to me when I first used nizoral I had decided start it with it as my first treatment and I lost one side of the front of my hair. I was in shock and although it seemed harsh I decided that was area susceptible to male pattern baldness and kept using it.

I actually ran out of and decided to give it a miss, to see my results. I am now considering head and shoulders as 1 study posted previously here said it increased hair count over long term useage, but I need to do more research into this.

Anyways I had the same experience.

Don't even bother thinking that head and shoulders will help you regrow hair. I have used it every day for the past 10 years and I STILL started losing it when I was 16 =P

YES DAMMIT! Go see a physician before jumping on propecia. That should be the case with ALL prescription drugs.
