Hey all, I've lurked for the last few months since I finally started in on rogaine. I started 2 months ago, almost exactly, using rogaine 5% foam on my hairline and from some quick recommendations I found online, I started using Nioxin shampoo. I did this for about 2 weeks, and at about day 13 I noticed some slight burning in the area when I applied the foam. The next day after my morning shower, using nioxin shampoo, I applied the foam and my head was on fire! I had a crazy rash on my head for the rest of the day. I didnt want to go cold turkey off the foam, so i used a ton of lotion before applying at night and I didnt have any issues with burning sensation after that. I havent used the shampoo since, and I've had no more negative reactions to the foam.

Just wondering, has anyone else had this happen before? I assume I dried my scalp out overusing the shampoo?

Thanks!

(also, I've noticed a few small hairs in the area, and darkening of the peach fuzz. Im assuming these are good signs for 2 months in?)

Maybe a chemical reaction because you know, Nioxin is a kitchen sink product.

And yes it is a good sign, but you should wait 4 months for results.

It may be a reaction to the ketoconazole shampoo. I agree with HustlingBadly. Nioxin has a lot of ingredients in it so it may be hard to pin point what exactly in there was causing the reaction. I would try using a ketoconazole shampoo that's a bit healthier for you. Maybe one that includes ingredients such as saw palmetto, emu oil (here is a beneficial article on how this ingredient is helpful), and jojoba oil as well as one that is sulfate free. Those ingredients seem to cause less irritation to the scalp and have added benefits.
