With the recent posts concerning insulins impact on hairloss and the associated gf1 I'm surprised once again at th lack of talk and interest in magnesium. Energy metabolism of magnesium is as accute as adenosine's catalyst effect.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential to good health. Approximately 50% of total body magnesium is found in bone. The other half is found predominantly inside cells of body tissues and organs. Only 1% of magnesium is found in blood, but the body works very hard to keep blood levels of magnesium constant [1].

Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis [2-3]. There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Dietary magnesium is absorbed in the small intestines. Magnesium is excreted through the kidneys

Here's a post done on a nonhairloss forum about nutrition.

Another cool thing about magnesium - it slows down hair loss. Since I started the magnesium supplements, my hair quit falling out like it was.

Everyone loses about 100 hairs per day, but I was noticing handfuls coming out while blow-drying my hair. (I have long hair, fortunately, and quite a lot of it to spare.) This seems to be related to adderall.

I would say my hair loss has slowed down to normal, with magnesium suplementation. My supplement has some zinc in it too.

Has anybody noticed the link between bone cell activity and hair cell activity. The guys using ps1 were using a compound that was predominantly know to grow healthy bone. My point is magnesium is underappreciated because it has bone protein and thus hair protein synthesis impact. No its def not the cure but damn it sounds important to keeping what I have and maybe speeding up growth.

My Centrum Multi has 100mg of Magnesium in it...which is supposedly 25% of the daily allowance. I wonder what food/drink/supplements contain it?

Considering that 100mg is ONLY 25% of daily intake I now know that I'm very deficient in it.

Note:with zinc being 15mg daily% and magnesium being 400% daily its now painfully obvious which one is the more usefull in hair care. Thanks for nothing all you zinc bousting bastards. :)

Try to take a full spectrum mineral supplement which include large amount of magnesium and perhaps take a seperate zinc supplement ( if needed )

I'm not sure what impact this should all have on my regimen. There are so many supplements out there. What, beyond a multivitamin, should I be on? Are zinc and magnesium the ones that are generally considered to be related to hair and male pattern baldness, or are there others that I'd want to up the dose on, too?

I think the reason the insulin posts didn't get as much response is that they weren't broken down into easy little pieces for us non-scientists. Was a consensus ever reached that led to any well-founded recommendations? (I know there were some dietary recommendations in that thread; I should go scan them again.)

Its my opinion that standard magnesium and zinc daily intake should def be taken. Magnesium in the above posted article shows that magnesium helps healthy insulin levels and its insulin thats been proven to be one of the culprits. Also magnesium helps bone proteins metabolism and the same goes for hairs.

Just read this thread Thin. I agree, a typical supplement that you can buy is "Cal-Mag-Zinc". It's cheap and good for you IMHO.

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and is essential to good health.

I take a combination pill containing calcium, magnesium, and zinc. S'alright.

Try taking a full spectrum minerl with high percentage of magnesium. I add a little sachet of minerals into my water daily to alkalise my water :)

For hairloss Zinc as a picolinate is highly absorbable.
