Im new here and i like you guys am getting really worried about my hair, im 23 and i have been noticing my hair thinning at the crown and the front, i lost my gran last year and this is my final year of university and girl friend is really driving me mad, so my question is,

My hair loss, is it down to stress? or natural?
I have red the forum a bit and see these drugs, i dont mind paying £28 for the pills from boots, but there is Finasteride, is that safe and where can it be bought in the uk?

Thanks

Andrew

Your hairloss is genetic... you should just get on propecia right away.. i'm your age and the same thing is happening to me. I never ordered online so i wouldn't be of any help i just get the prescription through my doctor and take it in to get filled.

I just started it two weeks ago! it will take a while before i see any results, but im just going to stick with it and be patient... one thing i did notice right away is that my scalp feels alot healthier, doesn't itch as much... always remember to use a good shampoo, it compliments the use of propecia.

Went to the Doctor (NHS) She said she is not allowed to proscribe this to drug for me for my hair. If it was something else she could!

Im still not too sure of what to do! She said it has alot of side effects which are serious and i need to think about what im doing.

Meanwhile, if you already using finasteride with satisfactory results and without side effects, we would recommend that you continue to use finasteride as a treatment for male pattern baldness. If you want to discontinue finasteride in favor of proven and safe topical medications or if you are not currently taking finasteride and wish to decrease the amount and/or activity of DHT in the scalp, use a topical medication such as azelaic acid, topical spironolactone or ketoconazole shampoo.

This was taken from that DR Lee site. Have you heard of anything like the Topical drugs shown above? As this article says that young men (us) should not take this drug!

Are you not worried about cancer? im not taking it i dont care that much about my hair.

Sorry to be so abrupt

I have no side effects at all... none!, i guess i'm one of the lucky ones... i'm planning on giving Propecia a good try... and i can tell it already is slowing down the hairloss... loosing alot less hair. And im shocked that your doctor told you that... my doctor told me the exact opposite.

I think im going to go with one of the topical treatments as in theory they should be doing the same thing just costs more to use them.

Propecia is the gold standard of hairloss treatments... i think you should give that a good shot, with nizoral shampoo.. then see the results you get and if needed use minoxidil...

She's talkin sh*t!! Of course she's allowed to precribe it. MY GP did and he told me the side effects a very low risk.

She said i could go to a private doctor and he can prescribe it to me, but under the NHS its not possible, should I try a different doctor?

you have a better chance getting cancer from smoking or second hand smoke then getting cancer from propecia... there haven't been any direct links that link cancer and propecia together... don't worry about it dude. the best treatment you are going to get is propecia.

Hmmm, you have a point i didnt think about it like that.

now costs, how much is it? if i cant get the doctors here to prescribe it, should i just buy it through here? Works out to be about £85 for three months, which is the same for the Topical treatments.

I pay 75 dollars a month canadian. you can get a prescription for it, just that your doctor was being a little shady and you should get a second oppionion. When i was in the UK i am pretty sure the pharmacies there sold propecia if you have a prescription. If you can get a better deal thats awesome too, its up to you though... remember, its your hair we're talking abou!
