hello all!

I am 21, and Ive been thinning slowly now for a while. At first everyone i told thought i was insane for thinking I was. I believe that my hair has slowly been thinning from age 15. I even called the bald truth radio show when i was 16. I noticed that over time my hair has softened up a lot! it used to be thick and rough feeling. As time went on I couldn't use gel anymore because of the "see through" look it gave me. I switched from gel to Got2b spiking glue. I made that change because I saw that water made my hair look like total crap, so I decided I needed something that didn't have water as the first ingredient. My hairline is starting to recede. My widows peak isn't as defined as it once was. The stress is killing me and probably making it worse. I cant even enjoy my youth. Now my question is, where do I start? Should i see a dermatologist? or should I just hit the drug store and foam up my head with Rogaine? My father has a full head of hair, but my brother has thinned out and he has given up on his hair. My brother is 29 now and he just shaves his head and is fine with it. I see his hair and its like looking into the grim future. I wish i could be like my brother and just shave it but i guess I'm too vain for that lol! I have pictures that i took of my thinning. Its thinning all over but mostly at the crown and at the hairline. Even the temples and sideburns aren't as thick as they used to be. This really sucks because people always used to comment how nice and thick my hair was. Now i don't even style it anymore. So what should i do? The only thing I have been doing is using T-gel shampoo. The shampoo helps a little but its definitely not enough. O and sorry if this post is in the wrong forum.

Hi mate

I was in your position a few months ago too, so here's my advice.
Firstly your hair still looks good (I wish mine was like & that I'm 22) I think the flash is making it look worse, but given your brother's loss etc if it is male pattern baldness you've caught it early which is crucial. So that is a positive.

If i were you i would try finasteride (brand name Propecia) for at least a year, and see where you are then. You can also introduce Rogaine / minoxidil for regrowth later if you need. You can buy the meds online but it's probably best to see a doctor for a prescription.I'm ignoring my own advice here because I bought mine online, but for peace of mind try your doctor first. If cost is a problem you can get a prescription for Proscar, which is Propecia in a larger dose and cut it up into 5ths with a pill cutter. (Sounded a bit dodgy to me at first too, but it's fine.)

Some people experience side effects such as loss of libido but there are people on here who have been on the drug since it came out (about 10 years ago at least) and they are ok...i was also worried about sides but I've been taking a stronger drug (dutas), and it's been ok so far (touch wood), so it does vary from one indvidual to another.
Above all do your own research and be patient! and try not to spend too long on here ;)

Hope that helps, anymore questions there are loads of people here who know

Good luck to you buddy.

Re: newbie please give guidance *update wit pics*

ok here is an update! I don't know why i couldn't log into my account! I made a similar account name! anyway, i got on rogaine foam and my hair looks worse! i apply it twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day! I use it all over the top and the hairline. i use nizoral about 4 times a week. I think a better shampoo is neutrogena stubborn itch control. my hair feels a lot thicker when i use the Neutrogena. I'm thinking about propecia or even dutasteride but i wanted to see a Doctor in the nyc area. i was going to go to BOB BERNSTEIN (one of the best out there) in Manhattan but just to see the guy its 100!! so if anyone knows of any GOOD derms in nyc area please let me know! now on to the pics i took.
I STARTED FOAM IN FEB 08 AND THESE ARE FROM APRIL 2ND 2008

look at how thick the back is!!!
