Hello everyone. I have also experienced hair loss for the past 3 years and sometimes it REALLY got me down. During these 3 years I informed myself in a lot of different forums including this one so I do have a good picture of what treatment is effective and what treatment is available etc. The problem is that I'm a little afraid of Propecias side effects. No not the sexual ones. I would most likely trade a lower libido for thick hair. What I'm afraid of is the connection between finasteride and your nerves. I first thought that finasteride wouldn't have any negative impact there because of the 5"2 Reductase isn't found in your nerves but as I recall other studies didn't really confirm that one. Also the reduction of allopregnanolone got be concerned since it is neuroprotective.
I wanted to ask you guys the following now : male-to-female transsexuals are males that surpress their male hormones big time and take lots of female hormones too in order to change their sex. Now taking finasteride is like a VERY VERY MINOR form of that direction. My logic is that if those guys do not have a higher incidence of neurodegenerative diseases or other serious illnesses than guys taking finasteride for hair loss most likely shouldn't be worrying about that right? Is that logic correct or flawed?
The problem now is that I can't find any reference about those male to female transsexuals........
The other thing I was contemplating is that Pseudohermaphrodites seemingly also do not have a higher incidence of those diseases (as far as I know) but on the other hand one could argue that their bodies are different than a usual male to begin with so I'm not sure how much that logic applies.
Any opinion etc. would be highly appreciated.
