Hello everybody. I have been noticing that my hair has been thinning considerably, and I'm at the point that I need to take action. I've read numerous reviews about numerous products, but I wanted to get some feedback before moving forward with anything. I've heard over and over that Minoxidil plus Propecia is the tried and true best combo, but I'm nervous about the possible side affects of Propecia, and I don't want to experience the shedding common with Minoxidil. After reading some reviews, it looks like Tricomin is a good alternative growth stimulant to Minoxidil, and I haven't heard anybody report initial shedding from this product. As far as antiandrogens/DHT blockers are concerned, this site has recommended S5 Lotion, Revivogen, and Folligen. Not sure which route to go on this one, but I would like something topical (if there is a good topical alternative to Propecia). I also plan on using the Nizoral shampoo in conjunction with whatever other products I start using.

With that being said, my questions are:

1.) Is my logic sound in my approach (i.e. Growth stimulant + antiandrogen/DHT blocker + anti-inflammation shampoo)?
2.) Are Tricomin and Nizoral both good products, or should I be looking into different solutions, given my above concerns?
3.) Does anybody recommend a good topical antiandrogen/DHT blocker that would work well with the other two products?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I understand your concern about potential sides. With that being said, we have two things that work: finasteride and minoxidil. I know it's not what you want to hear, but it is what it is. If there was anything else that was as effective as finasteride, but was a safe topical, why would anybody actually use finasteride?

Only decent topical anti androgen is RU. Don't be nervous about the sides of finasteride or the shedding of minoxidil. The shedding of minoxidil means it is working. The worst that can happen with finasteride is you will have difficulty getting a boner for like 3 weeks. That is not quite as bad as losing your hair to say the least

IS this RU legit and approved stuff?
Where do you get it? Obscure labs?

Thanks for the feedback. What exactly is RU? I've never heard of it before. Also, given the feedback that I've gotten so far, is it safe to say that Tricomin and Revivogen are ineffective? Has anybody tried them and had positive or negative results? I guess I'd just be curious to get first-hand testimonials from folks that have used the products, and what their particular experiences have been.

Regarding Minoxidil shedding, how much do people typically lose on average (if there is an average) and about how long does it take to start seeing regrowth? I guess I'm not as apprehensive about this product as I am with finasteride, (which I'm pretty sure I won't be using), but seeing as how Summer is upon us, I'd rather not be losing even more hair at the time when I need it the most.

RU is an expensive experimental topical treatment. No company has taken it up because the stuff goes bad at room temperature after a few weeks, so you need to make your batches at home weekly and keep the powder in the freezer. There are less chance of sides with RU than with finasteride. The general consensus is that it is at least as good as finasteride. Tricomin and Revivogen are weak. The only things strong enough to stop or reverse your hair loss are probably finasteride/dutasteride/RU. Why won't you be using finasteride? It is perfectly safe, sides are very rare, and temporary. It is also the cheapest treatment out there if you order generics online. The FDA itself has shown only 2-4% get sides, and that they go away after discontinuing treatment. There is no rational reason not to use finasteride

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I just don't like the idea of taking anything (at least internally) that's going to alter or affect my body's hormone production, especially if it's strictly for cosmetic purposes. Even if I'm of the 96 - 98% that gets no immediate sides, I am apprehensive about the possible long-term effects that it may have on my overall health. I've read others on here that feel the same, and have chosen to discontinue use after many years. Of course, this is just my personal preference, and I can't fault or blame anybody who chooses to use it, especially if they're seeing positive results. I guess it's just one of my bugaboos!

Testosterone is the primary cause for the average life expectancy gap between men and women. Testosterone weakens the immune system. By taking finasteride it is more likely that it increase life expectancy rather than decreases it. There are no studies to show this but this is what the evidence would point to. There is no argument for how finasteride could supposedly cause permanent sides or decrease life expectancy. There is only a handful of anecdotal evidence among millions that likely has other causes than the drug. Sorry if it seems like I am trying to push finasteride on you, but whenever someone makes a claim that is incorrect or not backed up by evidence that exists I feel as if I need to refute it

By your logic finasteride would decrease your life span. Finasteride increases testosterone. Stay away from this poison!
