Hi everyone! Nice to meet you all i'm new to this forum. I have been suffering from Hair Loss now for about 3 years and finally decided to do something about it.
I'm currently 19 years old but my hair loss got really progressive late on when I was 16 to 17. Currently I think i'm about a Norwood 3, with balding patch on top and receding hairline and thinning through the middle.
As I reached my 18th birthday I began to try a product called Provillus. I took this up until I was 19 but it was useless :(
I decided to go and see a Trichologist who specialises in hair loss. She told me to get some blood tests before I began any treatment and also to use this shampoo for a month and a half to get rid of my scalp dermatitis (slight flaking and chunky bits of serum). I got rid of this and my blood tests came back fine saying all my blood levels were normal.
Just over the 3 week mark now I have been doing my treatment daily which is :
- 1mg Propecia (Once daily in the morning with Breakfast as directed) (Merck Sharpe & Dohme)
- 5% Minoxidil (Been told to apply 2.5 from the dropper before I go to bed)
- Intensive Scalp Therapy (Basically just a tonic that I have to apply to my scalp after washing hair).
My hair loss has kind of drained my confidence over the years which has been really tough and my self-esteem is rubbish so I decided to take action like many of you here :) Where I have my hair loss I still have lots of fine small hairs so i'm hoping to get a bit of success from treatment! Even an overall thickening or just stop hair loss would be ok I guess (No results as yet from 3 weeks but I guess that's soo early to tell).
So, I feel a bit more happy about starting treatment knowing that I'm trying to do something! How long until I can see results from Propecia and Minoxidil? The trichologist suggested about 4 months to start to notice very slight improvement so I guess I have to be patient!
On the treatments so far I feel pretty good, but starting to get worried about the Propecia! (I just want to say I'm not here to cause problems about it and put the meds down at all, just asking for help and opinions.)
So, as you know I've been on treatment for about 3 weeks now and so far with Propecia I haven't suffered any pain or anything like that :) But, my libido seems to have dropped a lot? Like in a day I can still get hard if I masturbate and ejaculate even 3 times a day if I wanted and I still feel aroused at times too just like what any guy does! (Sorry to sound rude and go in to detail). However, since about the 2nd week of Propecia I have noticed my morning wood going on and off (no morning wood for 4 days now). Also, It seems much harder for me to get an erection which I'm quite worried about! I also feel my testicles have gotten a little bit smaller too but I could just be worrying myself? I've seen the stories and some of them are quite scary and it's really putting me off :( However, could I have no side effects and possibly just be worrying? Or maybe it could be due to over masturbating? :S I've been doing it a lot recently due to stress! I know that sounds odd :S I hope I haven't annoyed any off you or put you off I just simply came here to ask for help and opinions and maybe try to help you guys out! I'm from England too so I don't know if your all from America or what? Well thanks for your help everyone and nice to meet you all, Best Wishes and good luck to all of your routines and hair loss! Also, sorry this seems soo long, thanks for reading and helping if you do! Please don't send me horrors of Propecia too I know what can happen worst case.

So what is exactly your question(s)? You have posed some questions and gave the answers already, so, basically that's that. : d OK regarding the possible imaginings: the sides you experiencing have a real basis (finasteride inhibits the formation of other neurosteroids besides DHT) but you say you knew that. All other reasons are less likely (especially at your age).

Thanks for the reply psyhotria! :) Ahhh ok I see. But should I stop taking Propecia or do you think the sides will disappear as I continue to take it? Thanks

Sides should go away soon, or lessen as time passes
