Hello. I just recently signed up to this website. I am 38 years old and I signed up because of concerns. I noticed 3 years ago that my hair seemed thinner. I stopped worrying when it seemed that it was getting thicker after massaging scalp with nizoral and using volumizing shampoo. Someone mentioned something the other day how they could see scalp. I have been mildly depressed, stressed out, and sleepless the past couple of months (completely not hair related, lol). I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. Perhaps I'm just paranoid, because when I asked other people they said I was worrying over nothing. Here are some observations:
1. Looks VERY thin when wet/ Lots of scalp
2. When dry and not parted looks thick.
3. Parting looks very thin
4. No shedding whatsoever (I shed the least out of anyone I know...no hair on pillow, after shower, comb when I actually do comb, etc. etc. This has always been the case since I was a kid)
5. Hair doesn't seem thinner in pictures when I first was concerned 3 years ago.
6. I have been sleepless, stressed, poor eating habits, etc. last 4 months or so.
7. Seems thin, but with no pattern whatsoever. This may sound odd, but it almost looks like women's hair when their hair gets thin.
8. Last few months, I've had poor scalp hygiene. not massaging or using nizoral since i ran out. dry scalp
9. I have a tendency to twirl my hair when stressed or bored, but haven't found hair being pulled out.
10. Genetic history is all over the place....Dad's bald, his brother full head of hair and his father as well until he passed away at 90!. Mom's dad lost his hair in his 60s. All other men who thinned in my family started losing their hair in their 20s and it's roughly 50/50 who lost hair and who kept it. Either they almost all their hair or not at all. lol
Is it possible it's temporary? I'm also thinking it MAY mean my hair has less volume due to nutrition, stress, age, etc. This has been a bit of a downer for me since I always had really thick and full hair. Plus, I would not look good bald at all. I tried a buzz cut when i was 22 and it didn't look good at all. Some people can pull it off, I can't
Anyways, I'm going to do a few things to address this: Nizoral scalp massage and volumizing shampoo. Mild exercise and healthier eating with more fibrous vegetables and maybe a multi vitamin daily. Also, I will work on improving my sleeping habits. I would start a minoxidil regimen, but I heard if you stop it might accelerate hair loss, although this could be a myth. It might just mean that when you stop, you lose the hair you would've anyways.
What are your thoughts on minoxidil? Anything else I should do? The one thing that gives me hope is that if I'm able to stop the progression I would be very happy. I don't believe I waited too long and I can live this way happily for many years as long as it doesn't get worse.
