Interesting new study showing relatively similar response in both groups (gel vs tablets). Only 45 young subjects and 6 months follow-up though.

A good point is that they worked to find an optimal gel preparation, which turned out to be 40% water and 60% ethanol, and hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) as a polymer.

Unfortunately, they didn't bother to do blood tests to see if there was systemic absorption of the topical finasteride gel.

I'm just glad they are still studying it, trying to find a cure.

Yep, no finasteride-related sides in the gel group though. And one subject with decreased libido in the tablet group.

Anyway, liposomal systems seem to be better at delivering finasteride to the follicle. A serious study regarding its efficacy would be really welcome.

School boy error not doing blood tests. No sides in the gel group is promising, but if there was only one with sides in the tablet group....

I'd give it a try if I knew how to make it.

But there isn't a company comercializing an finasteride gel?

Just because it's risky to try something made by ourselves.

And how can a study don't bother with blood tests? :woot:
And only 45 people it's ridiculous... We can have results with that.. and 7 exclude, we only have 38 people, we can have both 50% side effects or none side effects..

And only 6 months?

But there isn't any product that has topical finasteride?

And anyone know what are local progesterone for hair loss treatment?

I guess you can get it made by a pharmacist. As it's been pointed, the problem is that the study has serious limitations: few subjects, no control group, no blood tests. Anyway it can be worth to give it a try if you experience sides with the oral pill.

No one from this forum trying it with results?

I mean it should work but if has side effects it's preferible to take the pill.
